রাজেন্দ্র নাথ দত্ত, মুর্শিদাবাদ : নবাব সিরাজের সাধের প্রাসাদ হীরাঝিল সংরক্ষণে উদ্যোগ নিয়েছে মুর্শিদাবাদবাসী। সুবে বাংলার শেষ স্বাধীন নবাবের সাধের হীরাঝিল প্রাসাদ পর্যবসিত হয়েছে ধ্বংসাবশেষে। কালের নিয়মে প্রাসাদের কিছু অংশ চলে গিয়েছিল নদীগর্ভে। ফলে পর্যটকরা সিরাজের প্রাসাদ দেখার জন্য এখানে আসলেও তা সফল হয়না। মূলত স্থানীয় বাসিন্দাদের উদ্যোগে বাংলার গৌরবময় অতীতকে ফিরিয়ে আনতে নতুন ভাবে হীরাঝিলের ভিত্তিপ্রস্তর স্থাপনের পাশাপাশি হয় বৃক্ষরোপণ কর্মসূচি আয়োজিত হল। নবাব সিরাজউদৌল্লা ট্রাস্ট এর পক্ষ থেকে হীরাঝিলের ধ্বংসবশেষের জায়গায় ভিত্তি প্রস্তর স্থাপনের সাথেই নবাবের নামাঙ্কিত শহীদ বেদিরও উদ্বোধন হয়। এছাড়াও উদ্বোধন হয় হীরাঝিল ফেরিঘাটের। নবাব সিরাজউদৌল্লার বংশের দশম বংশধর বর্তমানে বাংলাদেশের নাগরিক নিজে উপস্থিত ছিলেন এই অনুষ্ঠানে। একই সাথে মুর্শিদাবাদ জেলার লালবাগে পালিত হল পলাশী দিবস। উল্লেখ্য ১৭৫৭সালের ২৩শে জুন পলাশীর প্রান্তরে সিরাজ বাহিনীর সাথে ইংরেজদের যুদ্ধ হয়েছিল। সিরাজের পরাজয়ের মধ্য দিয়ে সূচিত হয়েছিল দুশো বছরের পরাধীন ভারতের কলঙ্কিত ইতিহাস। এদিন লালবাগ আস্তাবল মোড় থেকে শুরু করে হাজারদুয়ারী , ইচ্ছাগঞ্জ ঘাট পার হয়ে হীরাঝিল পর্যন্ত এক পদযাত্রায় সামিল হন এলাকার বাসিন্দারা। টোটো চালক ঘোড়ার গাড়ি চালক সহ সমস্ত ইতিহাস প্রেমী মানুষ সমবেত হন এই পদযাত্রাতে । প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বাংলাদেশের খুলনা থেকে আগত সিরাজউদ্দৌলার দশম বংশধর ‘সৈয়দা মাহমুদা’। এছাড়াও উপস্থিত ছিলেন লালবাগ মহকুমা পুলিশ আরক্ষাধ্যক্ষ বিক্রম প্রসাদ, জিয়াগঞ্জ-আজিমগঞ্জ পৌরসভার চেয়ারম্যান প্রসেনজিৎ ঘোষ, পৌরপিতা, সহ বহু বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তিরা।বাংলা-বিহার-উড়িষ্যার শেষ স্বাধীন নবাব সিরাজদৌলার ভগ্নপ্রায় মনসুরগঞ্জ প্রাসাদ বা হীরাঝিল প্রাসাদে পলাশীর শহীদদের স্মরণে শহীদ মিনারের ভিত্তিপ্রস্তর ও বৃক্ষরোপণ করা হয়। একটি বৃক্ষের নাম দেওয়া হয় ‘মীর মদন’। নদীগর্ভে চলে যাওয়া হীরাঝিলের ভাঙা ইটের পরতে পরতে লুকিয়ে থাকা সিরাজের স্মৃতির খোঁজে এখনও বেশ কিছু পর্যটক আসেন প্রতি বছর। কয়েক বছর ধরেই স্থানীয় বাসিন্দাদের একাংশ হীরাঝিল সংরক্ষণের দাবিতে জনমত গঠনের চেষ্টা শুরু করেছিলেন। গত বর্ষায় ভগ্নস্তূপের কিছুটা অংশ ভেঙে পড়ে। এর পরই তৈরি হয় ‘হীরাঝিল বাঁচাও কমিটি’।
শুধু তাই নয়, ওই এলাকার শিশুদের জন্য ইতিমধ্যে তৈরি হয়েছে নবাব সিরাজদৌল্লা মুক্ত বিদ্যালয়। যেখানে পড়াশোনার পাশাপাশি সিরাজের জীবন নিয়েও অবগত করা হয় পড়ুয়াদের। চলে নানান সামাজিক কাজ। নিজেদের ইতিহাস বাঁচিয়ে তোলার পাঠ দিচ্ছেন সমর্পিতা। তাঁর কথায়, একটি জেলার সমস্ত কিছুতেই যখন সিরাজকে জড়িয়ে, তাহলে কেন সিরাজের অস্থিত্ব টিকিয়ে রাখতে উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হবে না? কেনই বা মুর্শিদাবাদের মানুষ সিরাজকে স্মরণ করে বাঁচবেন না? কেনই বা ভাগীরথীর তীর বেঁধে সংরক্ষণ হবে না বাংলার শেষ স্বাধীন নবাবের প্রাসাদ?
Rajendra Nath Dutta, Murshidabad: The people of Murshidabad have taken the initiative to preserve The Palace of Nawab Siraj, Hirajheel. The Hirajheel Palace of the last independent Nawab of Bengal has been reduced to ruins. According to the law of time, some parts of the palace went into the river. As a result, tourists come here to visit Siraj’s palace but it is not successful. A tree plantation programme was organized along with laying the foundation stone of Hirajheel in a new way to bring back the glorious past of Bengal at the initiative of the local residents. The Martyr’s Altar named after the Nawab Was also inaugurated by the Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah Trust along with laying the foundation stone at the site of the demolition of Hirajheel. The Hirajheel ferry was also inaugurated. The tenth descendants of Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah’s family, now a citizen of Bangladesh, were present on the occasion. At the same time, Palasi Day was celebrated at Lalbagh in Murshidabad district. It is to be noted that on June 23, 1757, the English fought with Siraj’s forces in the wilderness of Plassey. Siraj’s defeat marked the tarnished history of India after 200 years.
On this day, the residents of the area took part in a march from Lalbagh Astabal Junction to Hazaraduari, Ichchaganj Ghat to Hirajheel. All the history loving people including toto driver horse drivers gathered in this march. The chief guest was ‘Syeda Mahmuda’, the 10th descendant of Siraj-ud-Daulah from Khulna in Bangladesh. Also present on the occasion were Lalbagh Sub-Divisional Police Inspector Bikram Prasad, Chairman of Jiaganj-Azimganj Municipality Prasenjit Ghosh, Municipal Father, and many other dignitaries. The foundation stone and tree plantation of shaheed minar was done in the memory of the martyrs of Palasi at the fractured Mansurganj Palace or Hirajheel Palace of Sirajdaula, the last independent Nawab of Bengal-Bihar-Orissa. A tree is named ‘Mir Madan’. A number of tourists still come every year in search of the memory of Siraj, who was hiding in the broken brick of Hirajheel who had gone to the river bed. Over the years, a section of local residents had started trying to form a public opinion demanding hirajheel reservation. A portion of the debris collapsed last monsoon. After this, the ‘Hirajheel Bachao Committee’ was formed.
Not only that, the Nawab Sirajdaullah Open School has already been built for the children of the area. In addition to studying, the students were also informed about Siraj’s life. There’s a lot of social work going on. He teaches the lesson of saving his own history. In his words, when Siraj is involved in everything in a district, then why not take the initiative to preserve Siraj’s existence? Why don’t the people of Murshidabad remember Siraj and live? Why can’t the last independent Nawab of Bengal’s palace be preserved on the banks of Bhagirathi?
