Gopal Biswas, Nadia- The fish of the river are all dying as the amount of water is less in the River Khre, which flows on the seventh side of the Bhagirathi river in Nabadwip, and the rotten water of various areas, including Karimpur, Chapra, etc., is flowing into the river. As a result, a large number of fishermen in Swarupganj panchayat area of Nabadwip block are facing financial losses. The fishermen are forced to withdraw from their profession as they are unemployed due to the fact that the fish in the Khore river of Nabadwip has become almost empty. Jute was found rotting on both sides of the river in different areas including Karimpur, Radhanagar, Chapra, Tehatta in Nadia district. As a result, the rivers have become almost empty of fish as the fish are dying and rotting. Sushant Haldar, a fisherman there, said all the fish are dying as there is less water for the rotten water. You can’t catch fish anymore, and after a year there will be fish. That put us in great difficulty. Hundreds of fishermen make a living by fishing from these rivers for years. No fish can be caught from the river for about six months due to the decomposition of jute in the river.
