মালদহ: প্রতি বছরের ন্যায় এবছরও কালীপুজোর পরের দিন মঙ্গলবার অশুভ শক্তিকে বিনাশ করতে শূকর নিধন অনুষ্ঠানে মাতলেন যাদব সম্প্রদায়ের মানুষজন। নিজের গরু দিয়ে শূকর নিধন প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশ নেন ইংলিশ বাজারের মহদীপুরের শতাধিক যাদব সম্প্রদায়ের মানুষজন। যাঁর গরু জিতবেন তিনিই হবেন সমাজের সর্দার। তিনিই আবার সবাইকে মিষ্টি খাওয়াবেন। এটাই হয়ে আসছে প্রায় দু’শো বছর ধরে। রীতি মেনে কালীপুজো উপলক্ষে পুজোর পরের দিন এই অনুষ্ঠান ঘিরে ব্যাপক উদ্দীপনা লক্ষ্য করা যায় মালদহের ইংলিশবাজারের মহদীপুর এলাকায়। শূকর নিধনে অংশ নেন যাদব সম্প্রদায়ের শতাধিক মানুষ। খেলা শুরু হওয়ার আগে নিজেদের গবাদিপশুকে রীতি-রেওয়াজ মেনে ফুল, কলার থোকা এবং সিঁদুর দিয়ে চুমানো হয়। যে গবাদিপশু শূকর নিধন করে তার মালিক সবাইকে রীতি মেনেই মিষ্টি-সহ অন্যান্য উপকরণ খাওয়ানোর ব্যবস্থা করেন। বিশিষ্ট সমাজসেবী প্রসেনজিৎ ঘোষের উপস্থিতিতে সুষ্ঠুভাবে সম্পন্ন হয় এই প্রতিযোগিতা। তিনি জানান, প্রায় ২০০ বছর ধরে বংশ পরম্পরায় চলে আসছে এই শুকর নিধন অনুষ্ঠান। সেই মতো প্রাচীন সেই রীতি রেওয়াজ মানে অনুষ্ঠিত হয় শুকর নিধন প্রতিযোগিতা।

According to the tradition, on the occasion of Kali Puja, on the day after the puja, there was a lot of enthusiasm around this event in the Mahdipur area of Englishbazar in Malda. Hundreds of people from the Yadav community took part in the killing of pigs. Before the start of the game, their cattle are kissed with flowers, banana stalks and vermilion as per the customs. The owner of the cattle that kills the pigs arranges to feed everyone sweets and other materials in accordance with the custom. The competition was held in the presence of eminent social worker Prasenjit Ghosh. He said that this pig killing ceremony has been going on for almost 200 years. In the same way, the ancient tradition means that the pig killing competition is held.
