ইন্দ্রজিৎ আইচঃ টেমোটা টাকার আর্কিটেক্ট এর চাকরি ছেড়ে নিজের পছন্দের গানের সমুদ্রে তরী ভাসানো সহজ কাজ নয়। সুমন চক্রবর্তী সেই কাজটা করে দেখিয়েছেন। অনেকেই নিছক পাগলামো বলে এড়িয়ে গিয়েছিল, কেউ বলেছিল এসব রোমান্টিসিজমের সময় এখন নয়, সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ায় হয়েছিল ট্রোলিং, সুমন কিন্তু হার মানেনি। অল্প কিছু বন্ধু আর শুভাকাঙ্ক্ষীর উৎসাহ আর নিজের সাহসে ভর করে সুমন তার সুরের তরী ভাসিয়েছিল। গানের রেওয়াজ ছিল, ছিল তালিম, দরকার ছিল শুধু ঝাঁপ দেওয়ার। সুমন সেটাই করেছে। আজ ইন্টারনেটে তার বাংলা গান অসম্ভব জনপ্রিয়। ২০২০ সালে এই প্রেস ক্লাবেই মুক্তি পেয়েছিল ওর গানের অ্যালবাম আবিরের সকাল। হারিয়ে যাওয়া বাংলার স্বর্ণযুগের সুর, গায়কী ফিরিয়ে দিয়েছিল সুমন। অসম্ভব প্রশংসিত হয় আবিরের সকাল। এর পরে গান মেলায় পারফর্ম, সাড়া ফেলে দেওয়া। দেশের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তে গান গাওয়ার অভিজ্ঞতায় আরও সমৃদ্ধ হল সুমন। গত ৩১ অক্টোবর ২০২২ সোমবার কলকাতা প্রেস ক্লাবের বিজয় সম্মিলনী অনুষ্ঠান উপলক্ষে সুমনকে সন্মানিত করে, তার গান সবার সামনে তুলে ধরার দুর্দান্ত উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছিল। সলিল চৌধুরী থেকে সুধীন দাশগুপ্ত, হেমন্ত মুখোপাধ্যায় থেকে মুকুল দত্ত, আর ডি বর্মন, কিশোর কুমার, অনায়াস নস্টালজিয়ায় শ্রোতাদের পৌঁছে দিল সুমন। উপস্থিত সংবাদমাধ্যমের সাংবাদিকদের মধ্যে অনেকেই অবাক হয়েছেন সুমনের গান শুনে। একঝলক বসন্তের বাতাসের মত সুমন স্বর্নযুগের সুবাস ফিরিয়ে দিল যেন।
