মালদাঃ মাঝখান দিয়ে বয়ে গেছে মহানন্দা নদী। একদিকে পুরাতন মালদা ব্লকের মহিষ বাথান এলাকা। অপরদিকে একপাশে ইংরেজবাজারের নড়হাট্টা গ্রাম পঞ্চায়েত অপরদিকে রতুয়া ২ নম্বর ব্লকের পীরগঞ্জ গ্রাম পঞ্চায়েত। কয়েকশো গ্রামের কয়েক হাজার মানুষ প্রতিদিন এখান দিয়ে যাতায়াত করে। কিন্তু নেই কোন স্থায়ী সেতু। অস্থায়ী বাঁসের সেতু দিয়ে প্রাণের ঝুঁকি নিয়ে পারাপার করতে হয়। যে কোন সময় ঘটতে পারে দুর্ঘটনা। এছাড়া রয়েছে নৌকা পারাপারের ব্যবস্থা। বারবার এলাকাবাসী স্থায়ী পাকা ব্রিজের দাবি জানিয়েছে কিন্তু তাও এখনো পূরণ হয়নি। সামনে দোরগোড়ায় পঞ্চায়েত নির্বাচন মানুষ চায় প্রতিবারের মতো প্রতিশ্রুতি নয় এবার স্থায়ী ব্রিজের ব্যবস্থা যাতে করা হয়। মালদা জেলা পরিষদের পূর্ত কর্মদক্ষ শামসুল হক বলেন ইন্সপেকশন হয়ে গেছে দ্রুত বীজ নির্মাণ করা হবে তবে তা কবে হবে তা কোন স্পষ্ট করে জানাতে পারেননি।
