ইন্দ্রজিৎ আইচঃ গৌড়ীয় বৈষ্ণব ধর্মগুরু এবং ইসকন বা হরেকৃষ্ণ আন্দোলনের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা-আচার্য অভয়চরণ দে ভক্তিবেদান্ত স্বামী প্রভুপাদ জন্মগ্রহণ করেছিলেন কলকাতার সুবর্ন বনিক পরিবারে। সেই সময়ে ম্যাট্রিক পাস করে ১৯১৬ সালে উত্তর কলকাতার স্কটিস চার্চ কলেজে ভর্তি হন। সেখান থেকেই ১৯১৮ তে ইন্টার মিডিয়েট ও ১৯২০ সালে গ্র্যাজুয়েশান শেষ করেন। এমনকি গান্ধীজীর অহিংশ আন্দোলনে যোগ দিয়ে ইংরেজ সরকারের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবাদ জানাতে তিনি গ্রেজুয়েশান সার্টিফিকেট পরিত্যাগ করেন বলে জানা যায়। মনে করা হয় পরবর্তীকালে গৌড়ীয় বৈষ্ণব মতবাদকে সমগ্র বিশ্বে ছড়িয়ে দেওয়ার তার লক্ষ অনেকটাই তৈরি হয়েছিল এই কলেজ জীবন থেকে। প্রভুপাদের সেই কলেজ জীবনের স্মৃতিকে বাঁচিয়ে রাখতে এবার স্কটিস চার্চ কলেজে চালু হল ‘এ সি ভক্তিবেদান্ত স্বামী প্রভুপাদ মেমোরিয়াল অ্যাওয়ার্ড’। যেটি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সবচেয়ে মেধাবী ছাত্রকে এবং একজন ফ্যাকাল্টি সদস্যকে দেওয়া হবে। স্কটিশ চার্চ কলেজের অধ্যক্ষ ডঃ মধুমঞ্জরী মন্ডল বলেন, ১৮৩০ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠিত একটি খ্রিস্টান সংখালঘু এই কলেজের লক্ষ্য এবং দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি হল সম্পূর্ণ ব্যক্তি শিক্ষার মাধ্যমে সামগ্রিক মানুষ তৈরি করা যা শুধুমাত্র শিক্ষার্থীদের বুদ্ধিবৃত্তিক বিকাশ নয় বরং তাদের নৈতিক, সামাজিক এবং আধ্যাত্মিক উন্নতির দিকেও লক্ষ্য রাখে। এটি স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ এবং শ্রীলা প্রভুপাদের মতো তাদের প্রাক্তন প্রাক্তন ছাত্রদের কর্মকান্ড থেকে স্পষ্ট হয়, যারা সারা বিশ্বে প্রেম, আধ্যাত্মিকতা এবং ভ্রাতৃত্বের সারমর্ম ছড়িয়ে দেওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে অগ্রণী ভূমিকা পালন করেছেন। ভক্তিবেদান্ত রিসার্চ সেন্টারের ট্রাস্টি ও ডিন একাডেমিক্স ডক্টর সুমন্ত রুদ্র বলেন, শ্রীলা প্রভুপাদের জীবনে স্কটিস চার্চ কলেজের অবদান অনুসন্ধান করাই তাদের মুল উদ্যেশ্য।
Indrajit Aich: Gaudiya Vaishnava religious leader and founder-acharya of ISKCON or Harekrishna movement- Acharya Abhaycharan De Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada was born in the Subarna Banik family of Kolkata. At that time, he passed matriculation and was admitted to The Scottish Church College in North Kolkata in 1916. From there, he completed intermediate in 1918 and graduation in 1920. He is also said to have renounced the gratuation certificate to protest against the British government by joining Gandhiji’s Ahinsh movement. It is believed that much of his goal of spreading Gaudiya Vaishnava doctrine all over the world was made from this college life. The ‘A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada Memorial Award’ has been launched at the Scottish Church College to keep the memories of Prabhupada’s college life alive. Which will be given to the most meritorious student of the university and a faculty member. Dr. Madhumanjari Mandal, Principal, Scottish Church College, said, “The goal and vision of this college, a Christian sankalgu founded in 1830, is to create a holistic human being through complete individual education that aims not only at the intellectual development of the students but also their moral, social and spiritual well-being. This is evident from the activities of their alumni like Swami Vivekananda and Srila Prabhupada, who have played a leading role in spreading the essence of love, spirituality and brotherhood all over the world. Dr Sumanta Rudra, Trustee and Dean Academics, Bhaktivedanta Research Centre, said, “The main objective is to explore the contribution of The Scottish Church College in srila prabhupada’s life.
