আলম নামে এক ব্যক্তি মিলে অর্পিতাকে শাল কাঠের বাটাম দিয়ে মারধর করছেন। আর ভাইঝি অর্পিতা রক্তাক্ত অবস্থায় পড়ে আছেন। ওই তরুণীর চিৎকার শুনে প্রতিবেশীরাও সেখানে আসেন। তাঁদের সহযোগিতায় অর্পিতাকে চিকিৎসার জন্য দ্রুত চ্যাংরাবান্ধা ব্লক প্রাথমিক স্বাস্থ্য কেন্দ্রে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। অবস্থা আশঙ্কাজনক হওয়ায় তাঁকে অন্যত্র রেফার করা হয়। মঙ্গলবার শিলিগুড়ির একটি বেসরকারি হাসপাতালে অর্পিতার মৃত্যু হয়েছে। আলিপুরদুয়ারের মাদারিহাট এলাকার বাসিন্দা সামসের আলমের সঙ্গে দুর্গা মল্লিকের দীর্ঘদিন থেকে অবৈধ সম্পর্ক রয়েছে বলে অভিযোগ। মায়ের এই অবৈধ সম্পর্ক জেনে ফেলাতেই সামসের ও দুর্গা মিলে অর্পিতাকে বাটাম দিয়ে পিটিয়ে খুন করেছে, এমনই দাবি মৃতার কাকা সহ স্থানীয় বাসিন্দাদের। ঘটনায় মেখলিগঞ্জ জুরে ব্যাপক চাঞ্চল্য ছড়িয়ে পড়ে। দোষীদের কঠোর শাস্তির দাবিতে সরব হয়েছেন প্রতিবেশীরা। এবিষয়ে মেখলিগঞ্জ থানায় অভিযোগ জমা পড়েতেই ঘটনার তদন্ত শুরু করেছে পুলিশ।
