ইন্দ্রজিৎ আইচ : উত্তর কলকাতার বাগমারি খালপাড় বস্তির গরিব ও পিছিয়ে পড়া ছেলেমেয়েদের সমাজের মূল স্রোতে ফিরিয়ে আনতে শহরের ঐতিহ্যবাহী স্কটিস চার্চ কলেজ দীর্ঘ দিন ধরে কাজ করে চলেছে। কলেজের অধ্যাপিকা ডক্টর মৌসুমী মান্নার নেতৃত্বে অন্যান্য শিক্ষক শিক্ষিকাদের সহযোগিতায় ফুটপাথবাসি এইসব ছেলেমেয়ে ‘সবুজ মন’ বা স্থানীয়দের ভাষায় ‘মাঠের স্কুলে’ পড়াশোনা, খেলাধুলা ও হাতের কাজ শিখে সাবলম্বী হয়েছে। সমাজের এই সব সুবিধা থেকে বঞ্চিত শিশুদের জীবনে পরিবর্তন এনে তাদের জীবনে হাসি ফোটাতে অসামান্য অবদানের জন্য কলেজের অর্থনীতির অধ্যাপিকা ডঃ মৌসুমী মান্নাকে এই প্রথম ‘এ সি ভক্তিবেদান্ত স্বামী প্রভুপাদ মেমোরিয়াল পুরস্কার ২০২৩’ প্রদান করা হল। স্কটিস চার্চ কলেজের বার্ষিক পুরস্কার বিতরণী অনুষ্ঠানে এই পুরস্কার তুলে দেন ভক্তিবেদান্ত রিসার্চ সেন্টারের ডিন ও ট্রাস্টি ডক্টর সুমন্ত রুদ্র। উপস্থিত ছিলেন কলকাতার বিশপ রেভারেন্ড পরিতোষ ক্যানিং ও কলেজের অধ্যক্ষা ডক্টর মধুমঞ্জুরি মন্ডল,কলকাতা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রেজিস্টার অধ্যাপক দেবাশীষ দাস প্রমুখ। কলেজের অধ্যক্ষা ডক্টর মধুমঞ্জুরি মন্ডল বলেন, গরিব ও পিছিয়ে পড়া ছেলেমেয়েদের সমাজের মূল স্রোতে ফিরিয়ে আনতে আরো বেশি করে কাজ করতে চান তারা। এই কাজে সমাজের সকল স্তরের মানুষকে এগিয়ে আসার আহ্বান জানান তিনি। ডক্টর সুমন্ত রুদ্র বলেন,গৌড়ীয় বৈষ্ণব ধর্মগুরু এবং ইসকন বা হরেকৃষ্ণ আন্দোলনের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা-আচার্য অভয়চরণ দে ভক্তিবেদান্ত স্বামী প্রভুপাদ ম্যাট্রিক পাস করে ১৯১৬ সালে উত্তর কলকাতার স্কটিস চার্চ কলেজে ভর্তি হন। সেখান থেকেই ১৯১৮ তে ইন্টার মিডিয়েট ও ১৯২০ সালে গ্র্যাজুয়েশান শেষ করেন। প্রভুপাদের সেই কলেজ জীবনের স্মৃতিকে বাঁচিয়ে রাখতে স্কটিস চার্চ কলেজে ‘এ সি ভক্তিবেদান্ত স্বামী প্রভুপাদ মেমোরিয়াল অ্যাওয়ার্ড’ সমাজ সেবার ক্ষেত্রে বিশেষ অবদানের জন্যে তারা তুলে দিতে পেরে তারা খুবই আনন্দিত।
Indrajit Aich : The city’s traditional Scots Church College has been working for a long time to bring the poor and backward children of North Kolkata’s Bagmari Khalpar slum back into the mainstream of society. Under the leadership of college professor Dr. Moushumi Manna and other teachers, these children of footpaths have been able to study, play sports and learn handicrafts in the ‘green mind’ or ‘field school’ in the local language. College for its outstanding contribution in making a difference in the lives of the deprived children of the society and bringing smiles to their lives Dr Moushumi Manna, Professor of Economics, was awarded the first ‘AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada Memorial Award 2023’. The award was presented at Scott’s Church College’s annual awards ceremony Bhaktivedanta Research Center Dean and Trustee Dr. Sumanta Rudra. Bishop of Calcutta Reverend Paritosh Canning and College Principal Dr. Madhumanjuri Mondal, Calcutta University Registrar Prof. Debashish Das and others were present. Dr. Madhumanjuri Mondal, principal of the college said, they want to do more to bring the poor and backward children back to the mainstream of the society. He urged people from all walks of life to come forward in this work. Dr. Sumanta Rudra said, Acharya Abhaycharan de Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Gaudiya Vaishnava religious guru and the founder of ISKCON or Hare Krishna Movement, passed his matriculation and entered Scott’s Church College in North Calcutta in 1916. From there he completed Inter Intermediate in 1918 and graduation in 1920. They are very happy to present the ‘AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada Memorial Award’ to Scotts Church College for special contribution to community service to keep alive the memory of Prabhupada’s college life.
