মালদা-মালদহ জলাধার থেকেও টাকা দিয়ে কিনে খেতে হচ্ছে জল। পানীয় জলের সংকটের এমনই ছবি মালদহ মেডিক্যাল কলেজ ও হাসপাতালে। অভিযোগ, মেডিক্যাল চত্বরে একাধিক জলাধার থাকলেও বিকল হয়ে পড়েছে। প্রচন্ড গরমের মধ্যে চরম হয়রানির মুখে পড়তে হচ্ছে রোগীর আত্মীয় পরিজনদের। যদিও জল সংকট মেটাতে পদক্ষেপ নেওয়ার আশ্বাস দিয়েছেন মালদহ মেডিক্যাল কর্তৃপক্ষ। রাজ্যে পালা বদলের পরে সদর হাসপাতাল থেকে মালদহ মেডিক্যাল কলেজ ও হাসপাতালে উন্নিত হয়। কর্তৃপক্ষের দাবি, অন্তঃবিভাগে প্রায় দুই হাজার রোগী ভর্তি থাকেন। এ ছাড়া বহির্বিভাগে দৈনিক গড়ে আড়াই থেকে তিন হাজার করে রোগী চিকিৎসার জন্য আসেন। তবে ওয়ার্ডে ওয়ার্ডে এখনও পানীয় জলের পরিষেবা উন্নিত হয়নি। মেডিক্যাল চত্বরে দুটি পানীয় জলাধার রয়েছে। সে জলাধার থেকে জল সংগ্রহ করে ওয়ার্ডে রোগীদের জন্য নিয়ে যান তাঁদের আত্মীয়েরা। এখন জলাধার প্রায় বিকল হয়ে পড়েছে। জলাধারের কলগুলি দিয়ে সুতোর মতো জল পড়ছে। জল সংগ্রহের জন্য পাড়ার কলের মতো লাইন পড়ছে মেডিক্যালেও। রোগীর আত্মীয়দের দাবি, ৩০টাকা দিয়ে জল কিনে খাওয়া সম্ভব নয়। তাই জলাধার সংস্কারের দাবি তুলেছেন রোগীর আত্মীয়া।
