ইন্দ্রজিৎ আইচঃ আগামীকাল বিশ্ব থ্যালাসেমিয়া দিবসের প্রাক্বালে থ্যালাসেমিয়া রোগীদের মনে সাহস দিতে ও থ্যালাসেমিয়ার বিরুদ্ধে সকলকে সচেতন করতে কলকাতা রোটারি সদনে অনুষ্ঠিত হল ‘সঞ্জীবন-২০২৩’। থ্যালাসেমিয়া রোগীদের মিলন উৎসব সঞ্জীবনের রূপকার বিশিষ্ট রক্ত রোগ বিশেষজ্ঞ ও কলকাতার অ্যাপোলো গ্লেনেগেলস হাসপাতালের চিকিৎসক ডা. সৌম্য ভট্টাচার্য্য। থ্যালাসেমিয়া একটি সম্পুর্ন বংশগত অসুখ। থ্যালাসেমিয়া মেজর রোগীর একটি জিনগত অস্বাভাবিকতা থাকে, যার ফলে রক্তে লোহিত কনিকা কমে যায় ও ত্রুটিপুর্ন লোহিত কণিকা তৈরি হয়। এই রোগের বাহক বা কেরিয়ারের মধ্যে রোগের কোন লক্ষণ থাকে না কিন্তু বাবা বা মায়ের একজনও কেরিয়ার হলে সন্তানদের থ্যালাসেমিয়া হওয়ার সম্ভাবনা থাকে। আবার বাবা মা দুজনেই কেরিয়ার হলে সন্তানের থ্যালাসেমিয়া হওয়ার পচিশ শতাংশ সম্ভাবনা বাড়ে। থ্যালাসেমিয়া রোগীকে রক্তে অতিরিক্ত লোহার জন্য বিভিন্ন সমস্যায় পড়তে হয় ও সারা জীবনই বাইরে থেকে রক্ত নিয়ে রোগকে নিয়ন্ত্রণে রাখতে হয়। বিবাহের আগে থ্যালাসেমিয়া কেরিয়ার নির্নায়ক রক্ত পরীক্ষা করে জেনে নিলে থ্যালাসেমিয়াকে অনেকটাই প্রতিরোধ করা যায়। কমপ্লিট হিমোগ্রাম নামের একটি সাধারণ রক্ত পরীক্ষায় রোগী থ্যালাসেমিয়া কেরিয়ার কিনা দেখা হয়। রিপোর্ট পজেটিভ হলে রক্তের HPLC টেস্ট করে রোগের ব্যপকতা নির্ধারন করা হয়। কেরিয়ার মায়ের গর্ভসঞ্চার হলে বারো সপ্তাহে একটি বিশেষ পরীক্ষা করে অনাগত শিশুর থ্যালাসেমিয়া হবে কিনা জানা যেতে পারে।
এই অসুখ উপযুক্ত চিকিৎসায় নিয়ন্ত্রণে থাকে। তবে এই অসুখে মানুষের মনোবল ভেঙ্গে পড়ে। তাই চিকিৎসার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে অনেক সময় পরিবারের কাউন্সেলিংও প্রয়োজন হয়। এই পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে এই অনুষ্ঠান কিছুদিনের জন্য হলেও থ্যালাসেমিয়া রোগী ও তার পরিবারকে ডিপ্রেশন ও দুশ্চিন্তা থেকে মুক্তি দিয়ে আশার আলো দেখায়। এই ধরণের অনুষ্ঠান রোগীদের উদ্বুদ্ধ করে, আশার আলো দেখায়, মারন রোগের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াইতে প্রেরণা যোগায়। প্রায় একশর উপর রোগী এই অনুষ্ঠানে যোগ দেন, একে অপরের সঙ্গে মত বিনিময় করেন। আজকে অত্যাধুনিক ওষুধ বা বোন ম্যারো ট্রান্সপ্ল্যান্টেশনের কল্যাণে বহু মানুষই ব্লাড ক্যানসার বা থ্যালাসেমিয়াকে নিয়ন্ত্রনে রাখছেন। এরকম অনেকেই আজকাল তাঁদের রোগকে নিয়ন্ত্রণে রেখে নিজের স্বাভাবিক জীবনে ফিরে গেছেন। ডাঃ সৌম্য ভট্টাচার্য্য বলেন যে সঞ্জীবন শুধু থ্যালাসেমিয়া নয়, থ্যালাসেমিয়া রোগীদের মোকাবিলা করা পাহাড় প্রমান বাধা ও অসুবিধার বিরুদ্ধে জয়েরও বিজয় উৎসব। আলোচনা শেষে একটি সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানে প্রতিষ্ঠিত শিল্পী, রোগী ও রোগীর পরিবারের সদস্যরা একই মঞ্চে অনুষ্ঠান করেন। ডা. সৌম্য ভট্টাচার্য্য একই সঙ্গে চিকিৎসক, সুগায়ক ও প্রতিষ্ঠিত লেখকও। অনুষ্ঠানে ডা. সৌম্য ভট্টাচার্য্যের নতুন বই প্রকাশিত হয়। সম্পুর্ন অনুষ্ঠানটির আয়োজন করেন পিকনিক গার্ডেন লীলা সেবা সোসাইটি। সোসিইটির পক্ষ থেকে বিশিষ্ট লেখক উজ্জ্বল চক্রবর্তিকে লীলা স্মৃতি পুরষ্কার প্রদান করা হয়।

Renowned blood disease specialist and doctor of Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, Kolkata Dr. Soumya Bhattacharya. Thalassemia is a purely hereditary disease. A patient with thalassemia major has a genetic abnormality that causes a decrease in red blood cells and the formation of defective red blood cells. Carriers of the disease have no symptoms of the disease, but children with thalassemia are more likely to develop thalassemia if one of the parents is also a carrier. If both parents are careers, the child has a 25% chance of developing thalassemia. Thalassemia patients suffer from various problems due to excess iron in the blood and have to take blood from outside to control the disease throughout their life. Thalassemia can be prevented to a large extent by knowing the blood test for a thalassemia career before marriage. A simple blood test called a complete hemogram is used to check if a patient is a thalassemia carrier. If the report is positive, an HPLC test of the blood is done to determine the extent of the disease. A special test can be done at 12 weeks of pregnancy to determine if the unborn child will have thalassemia. This disease is manageable with proper treatment. However, people’s morale is broken due to this disease. So along with the treatment, sometimes family counseling is also required. In this context, this program gives a ray of hope to Thalassemia patients and their families by freeing them from depression and anxiety even for a few days. Events like this inspire patients, show hope, and inspire the fight against deadly diseases. Over a hundred patients attended the event, exchanging ideas with each other. Today, many people are keeping blood cancer or thalassemia under control thanks to modern medicine or bone marrow transplantation. Many such people have now managed their disease and returned to their normal lives.
