কলকাতা, ২৪ নভেম্বর, ২০২৩: ক্যান্সার সচেতনতা প্রোগ্রাম হল গ্লোবাল ইউরো অনকোলজি কংগ্রেসের একটি অংশ যা ২৩ থেকে ২৫ নভেম্বর ২০২৩ পর্যন্ত কলকাতার ওয়েস্টিন হোটেলে অনুষ্ঠিত হচ্ছে। অনুষ্ঠানটি ইউরোলজিক্যাল সোসাইটি অফ ইন্ডিয়া- ইউরো অনকো সেকশন এবং ডঃ অমিত ঘোষ দ্বারা আয়োজিত হচ্ছে। সম্মেলনটি বিভিন্ন দিকে গুরুত্ব দিচ্ছে, যেমন আবাসিক ডাক্তারদের জন্য প্রি-কনফারেন্স ওয়ার্কশপ, ইউরো অনকোলজির উপর একটি জাতীয় ঐক্যমত, আলোচনা, ইউরো অনকোলজিতে সাম্প্রতিক অগ্রগতি অর্জন এবং আরও অনেক কিছু। সারা দেশ এবং বিদেশ থেকে ইউরোলজির স্টলওয়ার্টরা সম্মেলনে যোগ দিচ্ছেন যা এটিকে বিজ্ঞান এবং সমাজ উভয় ক্ষেত্রেই উপকারী এক ধরনের ইভেন্টের মতো করে তুলছে।
গ্লোবাল ইউরো অনকোলজি কংগ্রেস, ইউরো অনকোলজি ইন্ডাস্ট্রির ক্যাপ্টেনদের সংবর্ধনা দিয়েছে। এই ইন্ডাস্ট্রিতে সম্প্রতি ঘটে যাওয়া বিপ্লবগুলির মধ্যে একটি হল রোবোটিক বিপ্লব যা অসম্ভব ক্যান্সার সার্জারিকে সম্ভব করার জন্য যথেষ্ট প্রযুক্তিগত অগ্রগতি করেছে। এই রোবোটিক টার্নঅ্যারাউন্ডের ক্যাপ্টেন হলেন একজন ভারতীয় ডাঃ মণি মেনন, যিনি আজীবন কৃতিত্বের জন্য “দা টেগোর মেডেল” দিয়ে সম্মানিত হচ্ছেন। এছাড়াও, যুক্তরাজ্যের অধ্যাপক তথা কলকাতা মেডিকেল কলেজের প্রাক্তন ছাত্র প্রকার দাশগুপ্ত বিশ্বের রোবোটিক সার্জারিতে শ্রেষ্ঠত্ব অর্জন করেছেন। তিনি পদ্মশ্রী পেয়েছেন এবং সম্প্রতি যুক্তরাজ্য সরকার কর্তৃক “অর্ডার অফ দ্য ব্রিটিশ এম্পায়ার” দ্বারা সম্মানিত হয়েছেন। অনুষ্ঠানটি এই মহান বাঙালি অর্জনকারীর জীবনকে “দ্য প্রাইড অফ বেঙ্গল অ্যাওয়ার্ড” প্রদানের মাধ্যমে উদযাপন করছে। এছাড়াও সারা দেশ থেকে ইউরোলজিতে অনেক জীবন্ত কিংবদন্তীকে ইউরোলজি এবং বিশেষ করে ভারতে ইউরো অনকোলজিতে অবদানের জন্য “অ্যাওয়ার্ড অফ এক্সিলেন্স” প্রদান করা হয়েছে।
মিডিয়ার সাথে কথা বলার সময়, ডাঃ অমিত ঘোষ, চেয়ারম্যান গ্লোবাল ইউরো অনকোলজি কংগ্রেস বলেন, “গ্লোবাল ইউরো অনকোলজি কংগ্রেস কিডনি, প্রস্টেট এবং ব্লাডার সম্পর্কে জাতীয় এবং আন্তর্জাতিকভাবে আপ টু ডেট জ্ঞান ভাগ করার জন্য ডিজাইন করা হয়েছে। তার চেয়েও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ হল এই পুরো কার্যক্রমটি সমাজের সেবার লক্ষ্যে আয়োজন করা হয়েছে। আমরা সমাজের সাধারণ মানুষের মধ্যে সমস্ত ক্যান্সারের ঝুঁকির কারণ সম্পর্কে সচেতনতা তৈরি করতে চাই যাতে লোকেরা ধূমপান, ওবেসিটি, সিডেন্টারি হ্যাবিট্স, পারিবারিক ইতিহাস এবং এই জাতীয় অন্যান্য কারণের বিরুদ্ধে পদক্ষেপ নিতে পারে যা ক্যান্সারকে ত্বরান্বিত করে। একবার ঝুঁকির কারণগুলি সম্পর্কে সচেতন হয়ে গেলে আমরা প্রাথমিক রোগ নির্ণয়ের ব্যবস্থা সম্পর্কে সচেতনতা প্রচার করতে পারি যেমন ৫০ এর পরে পিএসএ (PSA) পরীক্ষা করা এবং ঝুঁকির কারণ বহনকারী সাধারণ জনগণের মধ্যে নিয়মিত স্বাস্থ্য পরীক্ষা করা। এটি প্রাথমিক পর্যায়ে ক্যান্সার পরিচালনার দিকে পরিচালিত করবে এবং ক্যান্সার নিরাময়ের লক্ষ্যে এগোবে যার ফলে অসুস্থতা এবং মৃত্যুহার হ্রাস পাবে।”
ঘটনা এবং মৃত্যু উভয় দিক দিয়েই ক্যান্সারের দাপট বিশ্বব্যাপী দ্রুত বাড়ছে। বর্তমানে বিশ্বব্যাপী ২০ লক্ষ ক্যান্সার রোগী এবং প্রতি বছর এই রোগে ৯ লক্ষ মৃত্যু হয়। ২০ লাখের মধ্যে ১৪ লাখ প্রস্টেট ক্যান্সার এবং প্রায় ৫ লাখ কিডনি এবং ব্লাডার ক্যান্সারের কেস রয়েছে। অতএব, আমরা ইউরোলজিক্যাল ক্যান্সারের ১০% বিষয়ের কথা বলছি, যা খুবই তাৎপর্যপূর্ণ। কিডনি, ব্লাডার এবং প্রস্টেট সহ ইউরোলজিক্যাল সিস্টেমের ক্যান্সার লাফিয়ে লাফিয়ে বাড়ছে। ক্যান্সার আজও মৃত্যুর প্রধান কারণ হিসাবে বিবেচিত হয়। যাইহোক, ক্রমবর্ধমান ক্যান্সারের বিষয়টি নিয়ে আতঙ্ক ও গ্লানির মধ্যে, একটি বিষয় নিশ্চিত যে বেঁচে থাকার হার মৃত্যুর হারের চেয়ে বেশি।
ইউরোলজিক্যাল সোসাইটি অফ ইন্ডিয়া- ইউরো অনকো সেকশনের অংশীদারিত্বে এই সম্মেলনটি সংগঠিত হয়েছিল যেখানে ডঃ অমিত ঘোষ সম্মেলনের আয়োজক চেয়ারম্যান হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন। তিনি অ্যাপোলো হাসপাতাল ভিত্তিক ইউরো অনকোলজিতে একজন স্টলওয়ার্ট। ৩৫ বছরেরও বেশি সময়ের অভিজ্ঞতার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে তিনি ১০,০০০ টিরও বেশি রোগীর সফলভাবে চিকিৎসা করেছেন। গ্লোবাল ইউরো অনকোলজি ওয়ার্কশপ আয়োজনের জন্য তাঁর উদ্যোগ আগত অনেক সার্জনদের উপকৃত করেছে।
Kolkata, 25th November 2023: A Cancer Awareness Program is a part of the Global Uro Oncology Congress that is being held from 23rd to 25th of November 2023 at The Westin Hotel, Kolkata. The conference has various aspects like a pre-conference workshop for resident doctors, deriving a national consensus on Uro Oncology, Discussions and achievement of recent advancements in Uro oncology, and much more. Stalwarts in Urology from all over the nation and also abroad will be attending the conference making it one-of-a-kind.

The Global Uro Oncology Congress felicitated the captains of Industry in Uro Oncology. One of the revolutions that have recently happened is the Robotic Revolution which has made many technological advances to make impossible cancer surgery possible. The captain of this robotic turnaround is an India-born Dr. Mani Menon who is being honored and felicitated with “The Tagore Medal” for lifetime achievement. Also, Professor Prokar Dasgupta of the United Kingdom has achieved excellence in Robotic Surgery in the world and is an alumnus of Calcutta Medical College. He received the Padmashree and was recently honored with “Order of the British Empire” by the Government of the United Kingdom. The event celebrated with Joy this great Bengali achiever’s life by awarding him “The Pride of Bengal Award”. Additionally, many living legends in Urology from all over the country were awarded the “Awards of Excellence” for their contribution to Urology and in particular Uro Oncology in India.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Amit Ghose, Chairman Global Uro Oncology Congress said, “The Global Uro Oncology Congress has been designed to share up-to-date knowledge Nationally and Internationally about kidney, prostate, and bladder. More than that this entire activity is targeted towards the service of the society. We wish to create awareness amongst the general society about the risk factors involved in all cancers so that people can take steps against smoking, obesity, sedentary habits, family history, and other factors that promote cancer. Once the risk factors have been made aware we can also propagate awareness about early diagnosis measures such as doing PSA tests after 50 and regular health checkups in the general population carrying the risk factor. This will lead to managing cancers at an early stage and can target cure of cancer thereby decreasing morbidity and mortality.”
The burden of cancer both by incidence and mortality is rapidly growing worldwide. Today there are 20 lakh cancer patients worldwide and 9 lakh deaths each year. Of the 20 lakhs, 14 lakhs are the incidence of Prostate cancer and about 5 lakhs each of Kidney and Bladder cancer. Therefore, we are talking of a 10% incidence of urological cancers, which is very significant. Cancer of the Urological system including the Kidney, Bladder, and prostate is increasing by leaps and bounds. Cancer ranks as the leading cause of death even today. However, in the doom and gloom about the issue of rising cancer, one thing is sure the survival rate is more than the death rate.
This conference was organized in partnership with the Urological Society of India- Uro Onco Section and Dr. Amit Ghose is the organizing chairman for the conference. He is a Stalwart in Uro Oncology based out of Apollo hospitals. With an experience of more than 35 years, he has successfully treated more than 10,000 patients. His initiative for organizing the Global Uro Oncology workshop has benefited many upcoming surgeons.
