Kolkata, October 7, 2023 – Milaap, India’s largest crowdfunding platform, announces the unveiling of the Financial Compendium by MOHAN Foundation during the 16th Annual Conference of Transplant Coordinators organised by Network & Alliance of Transplant Coordinators (NATCO) on October 7th in Kolkata. The “Funding for Dialysis and Transplants: A Comprehensive Compendium” was compiled by MOHAN Foundation, a leading NGO in organ donation. It received research support from NATCO and financial backing from Milaap. This resource offers comprehensive information on financial assistance for organ donation and transplant in India, benefiting hospitals and individuals, transplant coordinators, NGOs and transplant patients seeking information about organ donation.
The need for organ transplants is rising steadily in India. According to the Ministry of Health, 3 lakh patients are waiting for organ donation across the country. In 2022, there were 1,589 kidney transplants, 761 liver transplants, and 250 heart transplants performed at various centres. However, challenges such as lack of awareness, organ scarcity, and high costs still continue to persist. Organ transplants in India can cost between INR 10 to 25 lakhs, creating a significant financial burden for families.
The compendium aims to bridge the knowledge gap by presenting a wealth of information on available resources and financial assistance, encouraging and assisting economically deprived patients, hospitals, and NGOs. It also sheds light on various central and state government financial schemes that provide assistance to patients.
