কলকাতা, ১৯শে জানুয়ারি ২০২৬: পূর্ব ভারতের অন্যতম বৃহৎ স্বাস্থ্যসেবা প্রদানকারী প্রতিষ্ঠান মণিপাল হসপিটালস গ্রুপ-এর একটি ইউনিট, মণিপাল হাসপাতাল, মুকুন্দপুর, পরপর দুইটি জটিল মেরুদণ্ডের অস্ত্রোপচার সফলভাবে সম্পন্ন করে শিশু ও প্রবীণ বয়সের রোগীর চলাফেরা ও জীবনযাত্রার মান পুনরুদ্ধার করেছে। এই চিকিৎসা সম্পন্ন হয় ডা. অনিন্দ্য বসু, সিনিয়র কনসালট্যান্ট ও ক্লিনিক্যাল লিড – স্পাইন সার্জারি, মণিপাল হাসপাতাল মুকুন্দপুর-এর তত্ত্বাবধানে। এই দুইটি কেসের মধ্যে ছিলেন ৬৭ বছর বয়সী সীমা দে (নাম পরিবর্তিত), যিনি দীর্ঘদিন ধরে তীব্র মেরুদণ্ডের ব্যথায় ভুগছিলেন, এবং ১৪ বছর বয়সী আরশিয়া আহমেদ (নাম পরিবর্তিত), যিনি মেরুদণ্ডের যক্ষ্মায় আক্রান্ত হয়ে গুরুতর স্নায়বিক সমস্যার সম্মুখীন হয়েছিলেন। এই সমস্যার ফলে তাঁর চলাচল মারাত্মকভাবে সীমিত হয়ে পড়েছিল এবং দৈনন্দিন সাধারণ কাজ করাও কঠিন হয়ে উঠেছিল। উন্নত অস্ত্রোপচার পদ্ধতি, সময়োপযোগী হস্তক্ষেপ এবং বহুমুখী চিকিৎসা পদ্ধতির মাধ্যমে উভয় রোগীই উপকৃত হয়েছেন।
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!প্রথম রোগী সীমা দে, কলকাতার বাসিন্দা এক গৃহবধূ, কয়েক মাস ধরে তীব্র কোমর ব্যথা ও পায়ে ছড়িয়ে পড়া যন্ত্রণায় ভুগছিলেন। চিকিৎসা পরীক্ষায় দেখা যায়, স্নায়ুর উপর চাপ পড়ার কারণে তাঁর তীব্র ব্যথা হচ্ছিল, যা তাঁর চলাফেরা মারাত্মকভাবে ব্যাহত করেছিল এবং দৈনন্দিন জীবনযাত্রায় বড় প্রভাব ফেলেছিল। একটানা পাঁচ মিনিটের বেশি হাঁটাও তাঁর পক্ষে সম্ভব হচ্ছিল না। এরপর তাঁর উপর আধুনিক স্পাইন চিকিৎসা পদ্ধতি অনুযায়ী একটি মিনিমালি ইনভেসিভ কিহোল টিউবুলার লাম্বার ফিউশন সার্জারি করা হয়, যা কম টিস্যু ক্ষতির মাধ্যমে মেরুদণ্ডের স্থিতিশীলতা নিশ্চিত করে। হাসপাতালের উন্নত পরিকাঠামো ও অস্ত্রোপচার দক্ষতার ফলে এই অস্ত্রোপচার সফলভাবে সম্পন্ন হয়। অস্ত্রোপচারের পরের দিনই তাঁকে হাঁটানো হয় এবং কয়েক দিনের মধ্যেই তিনি হাসপাতাল থেকে ছাড়পত্র পান—নিজে নিজে হাঁটতে সক্ষম হয়ে এবং চিকিৎসার আগে যে ব্যথা তাঁকে সীমাবদ্ধ করে রেখেছিল, তা থেকে সম্পূর্ণ মুক্ত হয়ে।
দ্বিতীয় কেসটি ছিল কলকাতার টপসিয়ার বাসিন্দা, নবম শ্রেণির ছাত্রী আরশিয়া আহমেদের। তিনি দুই পায়ে চরম দুর্বলতা নিয়ে ভর্তি হন এবং দাঁড়ানো ও হাঁটতে সম্পূর্ণ অক্ষম ছিলেন। তাঁর মেডিক্যাল ইমেজিং রিপোর্টে ধরা পড়ে মেরুদণ্ডের যক্ষ্মা, যার ফলে মেরুদণ্ডের হাড় গুরুতরভাবে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছিল এবং জমে থাকা পুঁজের কারণে স্পাইনাল কর্ডের উপর চাপ পড়ছিল। সময়মতো অস্ত্রোপচার না হলে স্থায়ী পক্ষাঘাতের ঝুঁকি ছিল অত্যন্ত বেশি। জরুরি ভিত্তিতে অস্ত্রোপচার করে পুঁজ বের করা হয়, মেরুদণ্ডকে স্থিতিশীল করা হয় এবং স্পাইনাল কর্ডের উপর থেকে চাপ কমানো হয়। অস্ত্রোপচারের পর আরশিয়ার সুস্থতা ছিল উল্লেখযোগ্য। তিনি ধীরে ধীরে পায়ের শক্তি ফিরে পান এবং চিকিৎসক দলের সহায়তায় আবার হাঁটার প্রথম পদক্ষেপ নিতে সক্ষম হন। সংক্রামক রোগ বিশেষজ্ঞ, শিশু চিকিৎসা বিশেষজ্ঞ, পুনর্বাসন বিশেষজ্ঞ ও ফিজিওথেরাপিস্টদের সমন্বয়ে গঠিত একটি বহুমুখী চিকিৎসা দল তাঁর আরোগ্যে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে। নিয়মিত ফিজিওথেরাপির মাধ্যমে তিনি আত্মবিশ্বাসের সঙ্গে হাঁটতে সক্ষম হয়ে বাড়ি ফিরেছেন। যদিও বর্তমানে চিকিৎসকের পরামর্শ অনুযায়ী তাঁকে স্কুলে না যাওয়ার নির্দেশ দেওয়া হয়েছে। সম্পূর্ণ শক্তি, নিয়ন্ত্রণ ও স্থিতিশীলতা ফিরে পেলে তিনি আবার স্কুলে যোগ দিতে এবং সকল নিয়মিত পড়াশোনা ও শারীরিক কার্যকলাপে অংশ নিতে পারবেন।
কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করে সীমা দে বলেন, “অস্ত্রোপচারের আগে কয়েক কদম হাঁটাও অসম্ভব রকমের যন্ত্রণাদায়ক ছিল। আমার দৈনন্দিন জীবন কার্যত থেমে গিয়েছিল। সামান্য হাঁটলেই অসুবিধা হতো। অস্ত্রোপচারের কয়েক দিনের মধ্যেই আমি নিজের পায়ে হাঁটতে পেরেছি, আগের সেই অসহ্য ব্যথা ছাড়াই। আমার চলাফেরা ফিরে পাওয়ার জন্য এবং আবার স্বাভাবিক, স্বনির্ভর জীবনে ফেরার সুযোগ করে দেওয়ার জন্য মণিপাল হাসপাতাল মুকুন্দপুরের চিকিৎসক, নার্স এবং পুরো চিকিৎসা দলের প্রতি আমি আন্তরিকভাবে কৃতজ্ঞ।” স্বস্তি প্রকাশ করে আরশিয়ার বাবা, যিনি পেশায় একজন ব্যবসায়ী, বলেন, “আমাদের মেয়ের অসুস্থতার কথা জানার পর আমরা ভীষণভাবে চিন্তিত ছিলাম। হাসপাতালের চিকিৎসকেরা আমাদের সবকিছু পরিষ্কারভাবে বুঝিয়ে বলেছেন এবং সঠিক সময়ে সঠিক সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছেন। মেয়েকে আবার হাঁটতে দেখা আমাদের কাছে আশীর্বাদের মতো। তার সুস্থ ভবিষ্যৎ নিশ্চিত করার জন্য আমরা পুরো চিকিৎসা দলের কাছে কৃতজ্ঞ।” এই দুইটি কেস সম্পর্কে মন্তব্য করতে গিয়ে ডা. অনিন্দ্য বসু বলেন, “এই দুই রোগীর সমস্যা একেবারেই ভিন্ন ছিল, তবে দু’টিই প্রমাণ করে দ্রুত রোগ নির্ণয়, উন্নত অস্ত্রোপচার পদ্ধতি এবং বহুমুখী চিকিৎসা ব্যবস্থার গুরুত্ব। মিনিমালি ইনভেসিভ স্পাইন সার্জারির ফলে শ্রীমতী দে দ্রুত সুস্থ হয়ে হাঁটতে পেরেছেন, আর আরশিয়ার ক্ষেত্রে সময়মতো রোগ নির্ণয় ও অস্ত্রোপচার তাঁর স্পাইনাল কর্ডকে স্থায়ী ক্ষতির হাত থেকে রক্ষা করেছে। এত অল্প সময়ের মধ্যে রোগীদের আবার হাঁটতে দেখা আমাদের জন্য অত্যন্ত তৃপ্তিদায়ক।” এই পরপর দুইটি সাফল্য মণিপাল হাসপাতাল, মুকুন্দপুর-এর উন্নত, রোগী-কেন্দ্রিক স্পাইন চিকিৎসা প্রদানের প্রতিশ্রুতিকে আরও দৃঢ় করে—যা ক্লিনিক্যাল উৎকর্ষতা, আধুনিক প্রযুক্তি এবং সমন্বিত বহুমুখী চিকিৎসা দক্ষতার মাধ্যমে বাস্তবায়িত হচ্ছে।
Kolkata, 19th January 2026: Manipal Hospital, Mukundapur, a unit of one of the largest healthcare providers of Eastern India – Manipal Hospitals Group, successfully treated two consecutive complex spine surgery cases, restoring mobility and quality of life for patients from both paediatric and elderly age profiles, under the supervision of Dr. Anindya Basu, Senior Consultant and Clinical Lead – Spine Surgery, Manipal Hospital Mukundapur. The two cases involved 67-year-old Seema Dey (name changed), with debilitating spinal pain, and 14-year-old Arshia Ahmed (name changed), diagnosed with spinal tuberculosis leading to severe neurological impairment, which limited her movement and made even simple tasks difficult. Both patients benefited from advanced surgical techniques, timely intervention, and a multidisciplinary approach to their care.
The first patient, Seema Dey, a housewife, resident of Kolkata, had been living with severe lower back pain and a radiating pain down her leg for several months. Clinical evaluation revealed nerve compression resulting in severe back pain that spreads to the leg, which had severely impacted her daily activities, making it difficult for her to walk for more than five minutes at a time. She then underwent a minimally invasive keyhole tubular lumbar fusion surgery, a modern spine technique designed to minimise tissue damage while ensuring spinal stability. The second case involved Arshia Ahmed, a ninth-grade student from Topsia, Kolkata, who was admitted with extreme weakness in both legs and an inability to stand and walk. Her medical imaging revealed spinal tuberculosis, where the bones of the spine were badly damaged, and the spinal cord was being compressed due to accumulated pus. Without timely surgical intervention, the condition carried a high risk of permanent paralysis. An urgent surgery was performed to drain the abscess, stabilise the spine, and decompress the spinal cord. Arshia made a remarkable recovery. She began regaining strength in her legs, and, with the support of the medical team, she could take her first steps again, post-surgery. Her recovery was assisted by a multidisciplinary team that included infectious disease specialists, experts in paediatric care, and rehabilitation professionals, along with structured physiotherapy, which helped her return home, confident and walking. Although the doctor has advised her to refrain from attending school for the time being, as she is undergoing regular physiotherapy. Once she regains full control, strength, and stability, she will be able to rejoin school and participate in all regular academic and physical activities.
Expressing her gratitude, Seema Dey said, “Before the surgery, even taking a few steps was extremely painful, and my daily life had come to a standstill. I could barely walk without discomfort. After the operation, I was able to walk on my own within just a few days, without the pain that once restricted me. I am truly grateful to the doctors, nurses, and the entire medical team at Manipal Hospital Mukundapur for helping me regain my mobility and return to a normal, independent life.” Sharing his relief, Arshia’s father, who is a businessman by profession, said, “We were extremely worried when we learned about our daughter’s condition.
