On 29th October 2025, the Institute of Neuroscience Kolkata will be hosting World Stroke Day with a novel initiative, “Celebrating a new life “, and the patients who have overcome their deadly struggle with Stroke will be felicitated. In addition, the patients and their close relatives will narrate their experience of the disease and how they overcame the difficulties to the hospital staff and other people. We believe that a person who has experienced this disease himself is often the best educator and motivator. So we shall declare them our “ Stroke Mascot” on this day. The theme for this year’s World Stroke Day is “Every minute counts”.  So all the discussions by our involved faculties in the Institute will be on awareness and educational activities on stroke. The institute will also portray the state-of-the-art technologies used for this deadly disease and how these technologies will incorporate the stroke sufferers in rural Bengal for emergency stroke care via the tele-stroke services. Moreover, ‘like man behind the machine’, bridging AI technologies with the careers is also the cornerstone of stroke care in this institute.  Dr Apratim Chatterjee, Director of Stroke, I-NK, will portray all the ongoing and future projects of the department with various presentations. There will also be a simultaneous online inauguration of Tele-stroke units in I-NK. The meeting will be attended by a multidisciplinary community of clinicians, researchers, and innovators for fruitful discussions and academic exchanges. The meeting will be graced by eminent national and international dignitaries, including Shri Ranvir Kumar, IPS, Director General Fire & Emergency Services, Prof Robin Sengupta, OBE, Maj General, Prof A. Chattoraj, DG Admin, I-NK, Prof Milind Deogankar, Head, Dept of Neurosurgery, I-NK, Dr Sukalayan Purkayastha, Head, Dept of Neuro-intervention, Dr Suparna Ganguly, Director of Neuro-rehabilitation. The concept of “Celebrating a new life “ for stroke patients and listening to their experience makes this year’s World Stroke Day an innovation in this Institute.
