নয়াদিল্লি, ১৬ জুন, ২০২৬: দিল্লি-এনসিআর অঞ্চলের অন্যতম দ্রুত জনপ্রিয় হয়ে ওঠা স্কুল ফুটবল টুর্নামেন্ট ‘ওরিয়েন্টাল কাপ’ এই বছরের শেষের দিকে তার চতুর্থ সংস্করণ নিয়ে সগৌরবে ফিরতে চলেছে। তরুণ প্রতিভাদের নিজেদের দক্ষতা এবং ফুটবলের প্রতি আবেগ তুলে ধরার জন্য একটি সুসংগঠিত ও প্রতিযোগিতামূলক মঞ্চ দেওয়াই এই টুর্নামেন্টের মূল লক্ষ্য। ২০২৩ সালে এক তরুণ ছাত্র-অ্যাথলিট ফরিদ বক্সির হাত ধরে এই টুর্নামেন্টের পথচলা শুরু। মাত্র কয়েক বছরের মধ্যেই এটি দিল্লির স্কুল-খেলার ক্যালেন্ডারে একটি অন্যতম মেগা ইভেন্টের জায়গা করে নিয়েছে। গত তিনটে সংস্করণে এই টুর্নামেন্ট ওই অঞ্চলের শীর্ষস্থানীয় স্কুলগুলোর শত শত ছাত্র-অ্যাথলিটকে এক ছাতার তলায় এনেছে, আর ফুটবলের মাধ্যমে স্পোর্টিং এক্সেলেন্স, টিমওয়ার্ক এবং পারস্পরিক সম্প্রীতির বার্তা ছড়িয়ে দিয়েছে।
গত মরশুমের রুদ্ধশ্বাস লড়াই: গত বছর, অর্থাৎ ২০২৫ সালের জুলাই মাসে ঐতিহাসিক ড. আম্বেদকর স্টেডিয়ামে বসেছিল এই টুর্নামেন্টের মহারণ। ছেলে ও মেয়েদের বিভাগ মিলিয়ে মোট ৩৬টি স্কুল দল এতে অংশ নিয়েছিল। ছেলেদের বিভাগে চ্যাম্পিয়নের মুকুট পরেছিল দিল্লি পাবলিক স্কুল (ডিপিএস আরকে পুরম), আর মেয়েদের খেতাব জিতে নিয়েছিল ফরিদাবাদের গভর্নমেন্ট গার্লস সিনিয়র সেকেন্ডারি স্কুল। আগের বছরগুলোতেও এয়ার ফোর্স স্কুল (সুব্রত পার্ক), অ্যাপেক্স স্কুল এবং দু’বারের মেয়েদের চ্যাম্পিয়ন সংস্কৃতি স্কুলের মতো নামী দলগুলো সেরার শিরোপা জিতেছে, যা প্রমাণ করে এই টুর্নামেন্টের মান ও প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতা ক্রমশ কতটা উঁচু দরের হচ্ছে। গত তিন বছরের এই ধারাবাহিক বৃদ্ধি টুর্নামেন্টটিকে দিল্লি-এনসিআর-এ স্কুল ফুটবলের একটি নির্ভরযোগ্য মঞ্চ হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করেছে। একদিকে যেমন নামীদামি স্কুলগুলো অংশ নিচ্ছে, পাশাপাশি গ্রাসরুট বা তৃণমূল স্তরে খেলোয়াড় তুলে আনার দিকেও কড়া নজর রাখা হচ্ছে।
কী বলছেন উদ্যোক্তারা? টুর্নামেন্টের প্রত্যাবর্তন ঘোষণা করে কো-ফাউন্ডার ফরিদ বক্সি বলেন, “স্কুলের ফুটবলারদের জন্য আরও বেশি সুযোগ তৈরি করার একটা ছোট্ট ভাবনা হিসেবে যা শুরু হয়েছিল, তা আজ এমন একটা মঞ্চে পরিণত হয়েছে যা এই গোটা অঞ্চলের তরুণ অ্যাথলিট, স্কুল, কোচ এবং সমর্থকদের এক সুতোয় বেঁধেছে। গত তিন বছরে আমরা যে অভূতপূর্ব সাড়া পেয়েছি, তা সত্যিই দারুণ উৎসাহজনক। এই ভিতের ওপর দাঁড়িয়েই আমরা আরও এগিয়ে যেতে চাই। আমাদের লক্ষ্য একদম স্থির—ছাত্র-অ্যাথলিটদের জন্য অর্থবহ প্রতিযোগিতামূলক সুযোগ তৈরি করা এবং স্কুল স্তরে একটা শক্তিশালী ফুটবল সংস্কৃতি গড়ে তোলা।”
মেয়েদের ফুটবলে জোয়ার: এই টুর্নামেন্টের অন্যতম প্রধান উদ্দেশ্য হলো ফুটবলে মেয়েদের অংশগ্রহণ বাড়ানো। গত সংস্করণে ২০০-র বেশি মেয়ে এই টুর্নামেন্টে অংশ নিয়েছিল, যা প্রমাণ করে শুধু ছেলেদের মধ্যেই নয়, মেয়েদের জগতেও ফুটবল কতটা জনপ্রিয় হয়ে উঠছে। ‘ওরিয়েন্টাল কাপ’ সবসময়ই সব্বার অংশগ্রহণ, খেলোয়াড়সুলভ মানসিকতা এবং খেলোয়াড়দের সার্বিক উন্নয়নের ওপর জোর দিয়ে এসেছে। এমন একটা পরিবেশ তৈরি করা হচ্ছে যেখানে তরুণ প্রতিভারা উঁচু স্তরে লড়তে পারে এবং মাঠ ও মাঠের বাইরে মূল্যবান অভিজ্ঞতা অর্জন করতে পারে। আসন্ন সংস্করণের টুর্নামেন্ট ফরম্যাট, অংশগ্রহণকারী স্কুল এবং অন্যান্য গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ঘোষণা আগামী কয়েক সপ্তাহের মধ্যেই জানিয়ে দেওয়া হবে।
New Delhi, June 16, 2026: The Oriental Cup, one of Delhi-NCR’s fastest-growing school football tournaments, is set to return for its fourth edition later this year, continuing its mission of providing young footballers with a structured and competitive platform to showcase their talent and passion for the game. Founded in 2023 by student-athlete Fareed Bakshi, the Oriental Cup has quickly established itself as a prominent fixture in Delhi’s school sports calendar. Over the past three editions, the tournament has brought together hundreds of student-athletes from leading schools across the region, fostering sporting excellence, teamwork, and community engagement through football.
The most recent edition, held in July 2025 at the iconic Dr. Ambedkar Stadium, witnessed participation from 36 school teams across the boys’ and girls’ categories. Delhi Public School, RK Puram emerged champions in the boys’ category, while Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Faridabad claimed the girls’ title. The tournament has also crowned notable champions in previous years, including Air Force School, Subroto Park, Apex School, and two-time girls’ champions Sanskriti School, reflecting the growing competitiveness and depth of school football in the region. The tournament’s consistent growth over the past three years has helped establish it as a recognised platform for school football in Delhi-NCR, attracting participation from leading institutions while maintaining a strong focus on grassroots player development.
Announcing the return of the tournament, Co-Founder Fareed Bakshi said, “What began as an idea to create more opportunities for school footballers has evolved into a platform that brings together young athletes, schools, coaches, and supporters from across the region. The response we have received over the last three years has been incredibly encouraging, and we are excited to continue building on that foundation. Our vision remains unchanged — to provide student-athletes with meaningful competitive opportunities while fostering a strong football culture at the school level.”
One of the primary objectives of the tournament is to encourage greater participation of girls in football. The previous edition witnessed more than 200 girls competing in the tournament, reflecting the growing popularity of the sport not only among boys but also within the girls’ football ecosystem.
