কলকাতা, ২ ডিসেম্বর, ২০২৫: এম.পি. বিড়লা ইনস্টিটিউট অফ ফান্ডামেন্টাল রিসার্চ গর্বের সঙ্গে ঘোষণা করছে যে ন্যাশনাল সেন্টার ফর রেডিও অ্যাস্ট্রোফিজিক্স, টাটা ইনস্টিটিউট অফ ফান্ডামেন্টাল রিসার্চ, পুণের ডিস্টিংগুইশড প্রফেসর ও সেন্টার ডিরেক্টর প্রফেসর যশবন্ত গুপ্ত ২০২৫ সালের দ্বিবার্ষিক এম.পি. বিড়লা স্মারক পুরস্কারের জন্য নির্বাচিত হয়েছেন। অ্যাস্ট্রোনমি ও অ্যাস্ট্রোফিজিক্সে তাঁর অসামান্য কৃতিত্ব এবং বিশেষত রেডিও অ্যাস্ট্রোনমি ক্ষেত্রে তাঁর অগ্রগণ্য গবেষণাকে সম্মান জানিয়ে এই পুরস্কার প্রদান করা হচ্ছে। ১৯৯৩ সালে প্রয়াত শ্রী এম.পি. বিড়লার স্মৃতিকে সম্মান জানিয়ে প্রতিষ্ঠিত এম.পি. বিড়লা স্মারক পুরস্কারটি বৈজ্ঞানিক সমাজে, বিশেষত জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞান, জ্যোতিঃপদার্থবিজ্ঞান, মহাকাশবিজ্ঞান এবং সংশ্লিষ্ট ক্ষেত্রে, অন্যতম মর্যাদাপূর্ণ স্বীকৃতি। পুরস্কার নির্বাচনী কমিটি প্রফেসর গুপ্তর উদ্ভাবনী গবেষণা এবং প্রতিষ্ঠানে তাঁর উল্লেখযোগ্য অবদানের প্রতি উচ্চ প্রশংসা জানিয়েছে। “মহাবিশ্ব সম্পর্কে আমাদের জ্ঞানকে আরও সমৃদ্ধ করার ক্ষেত্রে প্রফেসর গুপ্তর নিবেদন এম.পি. বিড়লা স্মারক পুরস্কারের চেতনার সঙ্গে সম্পূর্ণ সামঞ্জস্যপূর্ণ,” বলেন এম.পি. বিড়লা ইনস্টিটিউট অফ ফান্ডামেন্টাল রিসার্চের সম্মানীয় সচিব মি. এস.কে. দাগা, যার তত্ত্বাবধানে এম.পি. বিড়লা প্ল্যানেটোরিয়াম পরিচালিত হয়। তিনি আরও বলেন, “তাঁর গবেষণা নতুন বৈজ্ঞানিক অনুসন্ধানের পথ উন্মোচন করেছে এবং এমন সমাধান দিয়েছে যা মানবজ্ঞান উন্নয়নে সহায়তা করবে। আমরা তাঁকে এই প্রাপ্য সম্মান প্রদান করতে পেরে অত্যন্ত আনন্দিত।” — যোগ করেন এম.পি. বিড়লা প্ল্যানেটোরিয়ামের কিউরেটর মি. এ. দত্ত। বহু দশক ধরে এই ক্ষেত্রে নেতৃত্ব দিয়ে আসা প্রফেসর গুপ্ত এই সম্মানের জন্য কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করেছেন এবং পুরস্কার গ্রহণের সম্মতি জানিয়েছেন। এই পুরস্কারটি প্রফেসর গুপ্তকে ২০২৫এই কলকাতার এম.পি. বিড়লা প্ল্যানেটোরিয়ামে এক বিশেষ অনুষ্ঠানে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে প্রদান করা হবে। পুরস্কার এবং অনুষ্ঠানের বিস্তারিত তথ্য এম.পি. বিড়লা প্ল্যানেটোরিয়ামের সরকারি ওয়েবসাইটে পাওয়া যাবে।

The award had recognized his groundbreaking contributions to Radio Astronomy and his lifelong commitment to advancing scientific knowledge. Established in 1993 to commemorate the legacy of Late Shri M P Birla, the Memorial Award has continued to be one of the most respected honors in the field of fundamental sciences. Each year, the award committee has evaluated extraordinary contributions to astronomy, astrophysics, and related disciplines. Prof. Gupta’s pioneering research—particularly his extensive work on pulsars, radio telescopes, and the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT)—had significantly enriched global scientific understanding.
The scientific selection committee had noted that his research had shaped new directions in observational astronomy and had enabled major discoveries that strengthened India’s position as a global leader in radio astronomical studies. Praising Prof. Gupta’s accomplishments, Shri K. K. Mohta, Honorary Secretary of the M P Birla Institute of Fundamental Research, had stated that his dedication and scientific rigor had embodied the values and vision long upheld by the M P Birla institutions. Prof. Gupta had expressed deep gratitude for the honor, acknowledging that the recognition had reflected decades of collaborative effort among scientists, engineers, and students who had contributed to his research journey. He had also noted that the award had encouraged continued exploration into the mysteries of the universe.
