কলকাতা, ২৯ এপ্রিল ২০২৬: নির্বাচনের দিনে কলকাতা জুড়ে যখন নাগরিকরা বড় সংখ্যায় তাঁদের গণতান্ত্রিক অধিকার প্রয়োগ করতে অংশ নেন, তখন মণিপাল হসপিটালস কলকাতা সবার অংশগ্রহণ নিশ্চিত করার লক্ষ্যে নিজেদের অঙ্গীকার আরও একবার তুলে ধরলো। বয়স বা শারীরিক সমস্যার কারণে যাতে কেউ ভোটদান থেকে বঞ্চিত না হন, তা নিশ্চিত করতে হাসপাতালের পাঁচটি ইউনিট—ইএম বাইপাস, মুকুন্দপুর, ঢাকুরিয়া, সল্টলেক এবং ব্রডওয়ে—সম্পূর্ণ প্রস্তুত ছিল। প্রবীণ নাগরিকদের নিরাপদ, স্বাচ্ছন্দ্যময় ও মর্যাদাপূর্ণভাবে ভোটদান নিশ্চিত করতে এই বিশেষ উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়।
প্রবীণ ভোটারদের চলাচল ও স্বাস্থ্যজনিত সমস্যার বিষয়টি বিবেচনায় রেখে মণিপাল হসপিটালস কলকাতা একটি বিশেষ উদ্যোগ নেয়, যেখানে প্রতিটি এলাকার জন্য একজন করে দায়িত্বপ্রাপ্ত যোগাযোগ ব্যক্তি (SPOC) নিযুক্ত করা হয়। তাঁরা বাড়ি থেকে ভোটকেন্দ্র পর্যন্ত এবং সেখান থেকে ফেরত আসা পর্যন্ত পুরো যাতায়াতের ব্যবস্থা করেন, যাতে পুরো প্রক্রিয়াটি হয় ঝামেলাহীন। পাশাপাশি, MARS অ্যাম্বুলেন্সগুলি ভোটকেন্দ্রের বাইরে প্রস্তুত রাখা হয়। সেখানে হুইলচেয়ার ও স্ট্রেচারের ব্যবস্থা ছিল এবং প্রশিক্ষিত ডাক্তার ও নার্সদের দল উপস্থিত থেকে প্রয়োজনীয় চিকিৎসা সহায়তা প্রদান করেন। যেসব প্রবীণ নাগরিক শয্যাশায়ী ছিলেন, তাঁদের চিকিৎসা তত্ত্বাবধানে MARS অ্যাম্বুলেন্সে করে ভোটকেন্দ্রে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়, যাতে তাঁরাও মর্যাদার সঙ্গে ভোটাধিকার প্রয়োগ করতে পারেন।
নিজের অভিজ্ঞতা জানিয়ে বৈরাগী বৃদ্ধাশ্রমের গোপা চৌধুরী বলেন, “৮৪ বছর বয়সে ভোট দিতে যাওয়া সহজ নয়, কিন্তু আমি যেকোনো পরিস্থিতিতেই আমার অধিকার প্রয়োগ করতে চেয়েছিলাম। মণিপাল হসপিটালসের সহায়তায় পুরো প্রক্রিয়াটি খুবই সহজ, নিরাপদ ও স্বস্তিদায়ক হয়ে উঠেছিল। বাড়ি থেকে যাতায়াতের ব্যবস্থা থেকে শুরু করে ভোট দিয়ে বাড়ি ফেরা—সবকিছু অত্যন্ত যত্ন ও সহানুভূতির সঙ্গে পরিচালিত হয়েছে। এই উদ্যোগ আমাকে আত্মবিশ্বাস ও মানসিক শান্তি দিয়েছে, যাতে আমি এত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ একটি গণতান্ত্রিক প্রক্রিয়ায় অংশ নিতে পেরেছি। আমাদের মতো প্রবীণ নাগরিকদের মর্যাদা ও স্বাচ্ছন্দ্যের সঙ্গে ভোট দিতে সক্ষম করার জন্য আমি সত্যিই কৃতজ্ঞ।”
এই উদ্যোগ সম্পর্কে মন্তব্য করতে গিয়ে ডা. অয়নাভ দেবগুপ্ত, রিজিওনাল ডিরেক্টর-ইস্ট রিজিয়ন, মণিপাল হসপিটালস, বলেন, “নির্বাচন আমাদের গণতন্ত্রের ভিত্তি, এবং প্রত্যেক নাগরিকেরই মর্যাদা ও স্বাচ্ছন্দ্যের সঙ্গে এতে অংশ নেওয়ার অধিকার রয়েছে। অনেক প্রবীণ নাগরিকের জন্য ভোটকেন্দ্রে পৌঁছানো এবং ভোটদান করা একটি বড় সমস্যা ছিল, তাই আমরা তাঁদের পাশে দাঁড়ানোকে আমাদের দায়িত্ব বলে মনে করেছি। মণিপাল হসপিটালস কলকাতার ইউনিটগুলিতে আমাদের দায়বদ্ধতা শুধু চিকিৎসা পরিষেবার মধ্যেই সীমাবদ্ধ নয়; আমরা সমাজের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মুহূর্তগুলিতেও পাশে থাকতে চাই। এই উদ্যোগের মাধ্যমে আমরা নিশ্চিত করেছি যে প্রবীণ ভোটাররা নিরাপদ, সহায়তাপ্রাপ্ত আত্মবিশ্বাসী বোধ করেন। গুরুত্বপূর্ণ এই দিনে তাঁদের কণ্ঠস্বর যাতে শোনা যায়, সেটাই আমাদের লক্ষ্য।” এই উদ্যোগটি আবারও প্রমাণ করে যে মণিপাল হসপিটালস চিকিৎসা পরিষেবার বাইরে গিয়েও সমাজের কল্যাণ ও সহজে পরিষেবা পাওয়ার বিষয়টিকে অগ্রাধিকার দেয়, বিশেষত এমন গুরুত্ব পূর্ণ নাগরিক দায়িত্ব পালনের সময়।
olkata, 29th April 2026: As citizens across Kolkata turned out in strong numbers on Election Day to exercise their democratic right, Manipal Hospitals Kolkata reinforced its commitment to inclusive participation by ensuring that age and health-related challenges did not hinder the process. All five of its units – EM Bypass, Mukundapur, Dhakuria, Salt Lake, and Broadway – were fully prepared to support senior citizens, enabling them to cast their votes safely, comfortably, and with dignity.
Recognising that elderly voters often face mobility and health-related challenges, Manipal Hospitals, Kolkata, undertook a dedicated initiative wherein neighbourhood SPOCs (Single Points of Contact) coordinated end-to-end transportation, ensuring seamless travel for senior citizens from their residences to polling booths and back home. To further strengthen on-ground support, MARS ambulances were strategically deployed and stationed outside polling booths, with wheelchairs and stretchers available and supported by trained medical teams comprising doctors and nurses to address any immediate health concerns. Bedridden senior citizens were transported to polling booths in MARS ambulances under medical supervision, enabling them to participate in the electoral process with dignity and care.
Sharing her experience, Gopa Chaudhary from Bairagi Old Age Home said, “At 84, stepping out to vote was challenging, but I was determined to exercise my right no matter what. The support extended by Manipal Hospitals made the entire experience seamless, safe, and comforting. From arranging transportation from my residence to ensuring I reached the polling booth and returned home comfortably, every detail was managed with exceptional care and compassion. This thoughtful initiative gave me the confidence and peace of mind to participate in such an important democratic process. I am truly thankful to the hospital group for empowering senior citizens like us to cast our votes with dignity and ease.”
