Young Indians Kolkata Chapter inaugurated the Braille Accessibility project at Islamia Hospital on November 29, marking a key movement toward inclusive healthcare access for the visually impaired. The initiative enables patients to navigate hospital spaces with clarity, independence, and confidence through Braille-integrated information support. This launch reflects the core vision of Yi, which is to build an India where inclusivity is not aspirational but standard. Yi Kolkata works to create environments that empower people, break structural barriers, and encourage equal participation in public and private spaces. Accessibility remains one of its strongest mandates, and this intervention is a step toward a future where no individual is left out of systems simply because of a disability. Speaking at the launch, Guest of Honour Amiruddin Bobby, Councillor of Ward No. 54 KMC and MMIC Market, stated, “Accessibility is not charity. It is a right every citizen is entitled to. What Young Indians has facilitated today is not just an installation but a message that healthcare must be navigable and empathetic. I hope this becomes a model for many more institutions across Kolkata.”

“Our vision is an India where every person can move freely and confidently, irrespective of ability. This Braille project is a small but powerful step in that direction. We believe inclusion begins with infrastructure, and we hope more hospitals and public spaces join hands with us to build a truly accessible city,” the young Indian team from Kolkata added. The initiative was supported by funds raised in a sporting tournament, along with support from a Yi member who reinforced the collective effort behind this meaningful milestone. With this installation, Yi Kolkata reinforces the belief that progress begins with access. A more inclusive India is not distant when action meets intention, and today’s launch stands as proof of that.
