কলকাতা, ২৪ ফেব্রুয়ারি ২০২৬: এমজাংশন সার্ভিসেস লিমিটেড-এর আয়োজনে আজ শুরু হলো ১৯তম ইন্ডিয়ান কোল মার্কেটস কনফারেন্স ২০২৬। “কোলোসিয়াম: দ্য কোল ব্যাটলগ্রাউন্ড” শীর্ষক এই দুই দিনের সম্মেলনে নীতিনির্ধারক, শিল্পক্ষেত্রের শীর্ষ ব্যক্তিত্ব, খনি সংস্থা, বিদ্যুৎ উৎপাদক, পরিবহন ও সরবরাহ সংস্থা এবং আন্তর্জাতিক বাজার বিশেষজ্ঞরা ভারতের কয়লা খাতের ভবিষ্যৎ নিয়ে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করতে একত্রিত হয়েছেন। কোল ইন্ডিয়া লিমিটেড-এর তথ্য ও যোগাযোগ প্রযুক্তি বিভাগের নির্বাহী পরিচালক ভি. এস. মহারাজ বলেন, কয়লা বিনিময় ব্যবস্থার মাধ্যমে কয়লা বিক্রি ধাপে ধাপে চালু করার পক্ষে রয়েছে কোল ইন্ডিয়া। তাঁর কথায়, “আমরা সংস্কারের বিরোধী নই, বরং সংস্কারের সঙ্গে সামঞ্জস্যপূর্ণ। আধুনিকভাবে গড়ে তোলাকে আমরা সমর্থন করি, তবে সেই পরিবর্তন হতে হবে পরিকল্পিত, ধাপে ধাপে এবং জাতীয় জ্বালানি নিরাপত্তার সঙ্গে সামঞ্জস্য রেখে।”
গ্রান্ট থর্নটন ভারত-এর অংশীদার নিলাদ্রি ভট্টাচার্য মনে করেন, কয়লা লেনদেন ব্যবস্থা তখনই বেশি সফল হবে, যখন বাজারে কয়লার সরবরাহ স্বচ্ছন্দ বা উদ্বৃত্ত থাকবে। তিনি বলেন, “উদ্বৃত্ত কয়লার পরিস্থিতি এই ব্যবস্থার জন্য ইতিবাচক হবে। এতে লেনদেনের খরচ থাকা সত্ত্বেও দাম নিয়ন্ত্রণে থাকবে এবং বাজার ধীরে ধীরে বর্তমান সরাসরি গ্রাহকমুখী কাঠামো থেকে সরে আসতে উৎসাহিত হবে।” মহারাজ ও ভট্টাচার্য উভয়েরই মত, এই লেনদেন ব্যবস্থায় বেচাকেনার মাধ্যমে কয়লার দাম তুলনামূলকভাবে নিম্ন স্তরে স্থিতিশীল হতে পারে। সম্মেলনের বর্তমান প্রেক্ষাপট তুলে ধরে এমজাংশন সার্ভিসেস লিমিটেড-এর ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক ও প্রধান নির্বাহী আধিকারিক বিনয়া বর্মা বলেন, “একদিকে দ্রুত অর্থনৈতিক বৃদ্ধি এবং বাড়তে থাকা জ্বালানি চাহিদা, অন্যদিকে জ্বালানি রূপান্তর, স্থায়িত্ব এবং কার্বন নিঃসরণ হ্রাসের প্রতিশ্রুতি—এই দুইয়ের মাঝখানেই রয়েছে কয়লা। আজও এটি অপরিহার্য, যদিও সৌরশক্তি, বায়ুশক্তি, জলবিদ্যুৎ এবং পারমাণবিক শক্তির মতো বিকল্প শক্তির সঙ্গে প্রতিনিয়ত প্রতিযোগিতার মুখে পড়ছে।”
তিনি আরও জানান, জ্বালানির উৎস কয়লা হোক বা বিকল্প শক্তি—বিদ্যুতের খরচ সাশ্রয়ী হওয়া অত্যন্ত জরুরি। মহারাষ্ট্র রাজ্য বিদ্যুৎ উৎপাদন সংস্থা (মহাজেনকো)-এর জ্বালানি বিভাগের নির্বাহী পরিচালক পঙ্কজ সাপাতে বলেন, “আমাদের বিদ্যুতের শুল্ক প্রতিযোগিতামূলক হওয়া প্রয়োজন। তথ্যভাণ্ডার কেন্দ্র চালাতে বিদ্যুৎ শুধু পরিবেশবান্ধব হলেই হবে না, সেটি সাশ্রয়ীও হতে হবে।” নবায়নযোগ্য শক্তির দ্রুত প্রসার সত্ত্বেও কয়লা এখনও নির্ভরযোগ্য, সাশ্রয়ী এবং সার্বক্ষণিক বিদ্যুতের উৎস হিসেবে ভারতের জ্বালানি নিরাপত্তার মূল ভিত্তি হয়ে রয়েছে বলে জানান আদানি পাওয়ার লিমিটেড-এর জ্বালানি ব্যবস্থাপনা বিভাগের সহ-সভাপতি রাজ বন্ধু সন্তোষ। দিনভর বিভিন্ন অধিবেশনে বিদ্যুৎ, সিমেন্ট ও স্পঞ্জ লোহা শিল্পসহ বিভিন্ন ক্ষেত্রে কয়লার চাহিদার প্রবণতা নিয়ে আলোচনা হয়। দুই দিনের এই সম্মেলনে পরিবহন সংক্রান্ত সমস্যা, খনি প্রযুক্তি, টেঁকসই যন্ত্রপাতির ব্যবহার এবং পরিচালনাগত উদ্ভাবন নিয়েও বিস্তারিত আলোচনা হবে। সম্মেলনের সমাপ্তি হবে পারস্পরিক যোগাযোগ পর্ব এবং আইসিএমসি পুরস্কার প্রদান অনুষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে।
Kolkata, 24th February, 2026: The 19th Indian Coal Markets Conference 2026, organised by mjunction services limited, kicked off today, under the theme “COALosseum: The Coal Battleground,” bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, miners, power producers, logistics players, and global market experts for two days of deliberations on the future of India’s coal sector.
V S Maharaj, ED-ICT, Coal India Ltd, said Coal India is in favour of the phased introduction of the sale of coal through the coal exchange. “We are reform-aligned, not reform-resistant. We support modernization, but reform must be calibrated, phased, and aligned with national energy security,” he said.
Niladri Bhattacharjee, Partner at Grant Thornton Bharat, believes the Coal Exchange would be more successful in a supply-comfortable or supply-surplus scenario. “Surplus coal situation would be good for the coal exchange. It will keep prices in check despite market transaction charges and encourage the market to shift from its current D2C character,” Bhattacharjee said.
Both Bhattacharjee and Maharaj believe prices should settle at lower levels during trading at the exchange. Giving an overview of the current state of the conference, Vinaya Varma, MD & CEO, mjunction services limited, said: “On one hand, we are witnessing rapid economic growth and rising energy demand. On the other hand, we are committed to energy transition, sustainability, and decarbonisation. In between lies coal: indispensable today yet constantly fighting hard to exist in a world with other competing forces of energy such as solar, wind, hydro & even nuclear.”
Coal or renewable, whatever the form of energy, electricity costs need to be affordable. “Our power tariffs should be competitive. To power the data centres, power should not only be green but also affordable.” Pankaj Sapate, Executive Director (Fuel), Mahagenco, commented. Despite the rapid rise of renewable energy, coal continues to be the reliable, cost-effective, and round-the-clock source of energy and remains the backbone of India’s energy security, said Raj Bandhu Santosh, VP – Fuel Management, Adani Power Ltd. Sessions through the day assessed demand trends across industries such as power, cement, and sponge iron. The 2-day event will also examine logistics issues, mining technology, sustainable equipment deployment, and operational innovation, before concluding with networking engagements and the ICMC Awards.
