পশ্চিমবঙ্গ: খ্যাতনামা অর্থোপেডিক সার্জন ডা. অর্ধেন্দু শেখর পণ্ডিত চাঁপাডাঙার টেরেসা হাসপাতালে এক বিশেষ ওয়াকাথনের নেতৃত্ব দেন। এই ওয়াকাথনে সুস্থ হয়ে ওঠা অর্থোপেডিক রোগী, চিকিৎসক ও স্বাস্থ্য পরিষেবার সঙ্গে যুক্ত বিভিন্ন অংশীদারদের সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহণ লক্ষ্য করা যায়। গ্রামীণ বাংলায় উন্নত অর্থোপেডিক চিকিৎসার ক্রমবর্ধমান প্রসার এবং রোগীদের উন্নত চলাফেরার সক্ষমতা তুলে ধরতেই এই উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়। শহরকেন্দ্রিকতার গণ্ডি পেরিয়ে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি, প্রাথমিক পর্যায়ে চিকিৎসা ও রোগীকেন্দ্রিক জয়েন্ট কেয়ারকে এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে ডা. পণ্ডিতের নিরলস প্রচেষ্টাই এই কর্মসূচির মূল বার্তা ছিল। ওয়াকাথনে অংশ নেন বহু রোগী, যাঁরা বিভিন্ন অর্থোপেডিক সমস্যার সফল চিকিৎসার পর স্বাভাবিক জীবনে ফিরে এসেছেন। ডা. পণ্ডিতের সঙ্গে হাঁটতে হাঁটতে তাঁরা ব্যথা জয় করার, চলাফেরা ফিরে পাওয়ার এবং পুনরায় সক্রিয় জীবনে ফেরার অনুপ্রেরণামূলক অভিজ্ঞতা ভাগ করে নেন। অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন সিনিয়র চিকিৎসকবৃন্দ, হাসপাতালের শীর্ষ নেতৃত্ব এবং মেরিল হেলথকেয়ার প্রাইভেট লিমিটেড-এর প্রতিনিধিরা, যা এই অঞ্চলে মানসম্মত অর্থোপেডিক চিকিৎসা জোরদার করতে এক যৌথ উদ্যোগের প্রতিফলন।

সমবেত অতিথিদের উদ্দেশে বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে ডা. পণ্ডিত আর্থ্রাইটিস ও জয়েন্ট সংক্রান্ত রোগের ক্ষেত্রে সময়মতো সঠিক রোগনির্ণয় এবং প্রতিরোধমূলক চিকিৎসার গুরুত্বের উপর জোর দেন। তিনি বলেন, “আর্থ্রাইটিস কোনো একক রোগ নয়, বরং একাধিক কারণের প্রভাবে সৃষ্ট একটি উপসর্গ। সঠিক পরামর্শ, ওষুধ, ফিজিওথেরাপি এবং জীবনযাত্রার পরিবর্তনের মাধ্যমে অনেক ক্ষেত্রেই রোগের অগ্রগতি ধীর করা সম্ভব হয়। প্রকৃত প্রয়োজন না হলে জয়েন্ট রিপ্লেসমেন্টের পরামর্শ দেওয়া উচিত নয়।” তিনি আরও জানান, রোবোটিক সহায়তায় হাঁটু ও হিপ রিপ্লেসমেন্ট সার্জারির মতো আধুনিক প্রযুক্তি এখন চিকিৎসাক্ষেত্রে বড় পরিবর্তন এনেছে, যা অধিক নিখুঁত অস্ত্রোপচার, দ্রুত সুস্থতা এবং দীর্ঘমেয়াদে উন্নত ফলাফল নিশ্চিত করে।আপাতত মোটের ওপর ৪০০ সফল চিকিৎসা এখানে হয়েছে। দীর্ঘমেয়াদে জয়েন্ট সুস্থ রাখতে ফিজিওথেরাপি, নিয়মিত ব্যায়াম, ক্যালসিয়াম ও ভিটামিন ডি গ্রহণ এবং চিকিৎসকের পরামর্শ অনুযায়ী যোগব্যায়ামের গুরুত্বও তিনি তুলে ধরেন। পাশাপাশি তিনি জানান, টেরেসা হাসপাতালে স্বাস্থ্য সাথী প্রকল্প এবং মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর ত্রাণ তহবিলের মাধ্যমে অস্ত্রোপচারের সুবিধা উপলব্ধ থাকায় আর্থিকভাবে পিছিয়ে থাকা রোগীরাও কোনও আর্থিক চাপ ছাড়াই উন্নত অর্থোপেডিক চিকিৎসা গ্রহণ করতে পারেন। গত দেড় বছরে ডা. অর্ধেন্দু শেখর পণ্ডিতের নেতৃত্বে টেরেসা হাসপাতাল পার্শ্ববর্তী গ্রামীণ এলাকার মানুষের জন্য একটি নির্ভরযোগ্য অর্থোপেডিক চিকিৎসা কেন্দ্র হিসেবে গড়ে উঠেছে, যার ফলে বহু রোগীরই কলকাতা যাওয়ার প্রয়োজন উল্লেখযোগ্যভাবে কমেছে। এই ওয়াকাথন সহজলভ্য, উন্নত এবং মানবিক অর্থোপেডিক চিকিৎসার এক জীবন্ত উদাহরণ হয়ে উঠেছে—যার সবচেয়ে বড় প্রমাণ সুস্থ হয়ে ওঠা রোগীদের বাস্তব অভিজ্ঞতা।

Madurdaha School Showcases Student Talent in Sports and Culture at SATTA ULLAS 26

Kolkata | January 18, 2026: Madurdaha School organised SATTA ULLAS 26, a vibrant student-centric programme that celebrated the spirit of sportsmanship and cultural expression. Designed to foster holistic student development, the event emphasised the importance of physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, creativity, and confidence through an engaging blend of competitive sports and cultural performances. Students actively participated in a variety of sports activities, including track and field events, team games, and skill-based competitions that promoted endurance, coordination, and fair play. These sporting events provided students with a platform to demonstrate resilience, leadership, and teamwork, reinforcing the school’s emphasis on physical education as a key pillar of learning.

Alongside sports, students showcased their artistic talents through colourful cultural programmes such as dance, music, and group performances that reflected unity, tradition, and youthful energy. The cultural segment added vibrancy to the event, allowing students to express creativity while celebrating India’s rich cultural diversity. The programme was graced by Mr Jaideep Mukerjea, former Indian tennis player, as the Chief Guest, and Dr Ramendu Homchaudhuri, District Governor, Rotary District 3291, as the Guest of Honour. Mr S. Radhakrishnan, Board Member of Dakshini Prayash, motivated students to pursue balanced growth through academics, sports, and culture, emphasising the role of such platforms in shaping character and confidence.

Addressing the students, Mr Mukerjea appreciated their enthusiastic participation and praised the school for providing opportunities that extend learning beyond classrooms. He emphasised that regular participation in sports and cultural activities plays a crucial role in developing discipline, self-confidence, and a competitive yet healthy mindset. SXCCAA Reaches Over 800 Beneficiaries Through Mega Health & Eye Check-Up Camp at Raghabpur

Kolkata, January 18, 2026: Reaffirming the Xaverian spirit of service and the guiding motto “Nihil Ultra” (Nothing Beyond), the St Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association (SXCCAA), in collaboration with the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal, successfully organised the Mega Health & Eye Check-Up Camp 2026 on Sunday at the Raghabpur Campus of St Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata. The camp benefited over 1,100 residents from Raghabpur and surrounding villages, including Bakeswar, Magurkhali, Shalpukur, Debipur, Gosthomath, and Paikhala. Beneficiaries received free medical consultations and diagnostic services across eye care, ENT, paediatrics, general medicine, and dental care, addressing critical healthcare gaps in these underserved rural communities.

The programme was inaugurated by Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal of St Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, and President of SXCCAA, in the presence of Dilip Mondal, Hon’ble Minister of State for Transport, Government of West Bengal, and MLA, Bishnupur (South 24 Parganas). Senior government officials, medical professionals, faculty members, student volunteers, and alumni members actively participated in the initiative. Speaking on the occasion, Rev. Dr Dominic Savio, SJ, said, “True education finds its fulfilment in service to humanity. Through initiatives like this health camp, we reaffirm our commitment to compassion, dignity, and inclusive development for those who need care the most.”

Now in its 12th edition, the Mega Health & Eye Check-Up Camp has become a flagship outreach programme of SXCCAA, consistently bridging rural healthcare gaps through free diagnostics, medicines, referrals, follow-up care, and corrective eye surgeries wherever required. The initiative received strong support from healthcare partners, including Charnock Hospitals, Ratsa Diagnostics, The HEKA Foundation, and the Institute of Neurosciences, Kolkata, and was further strengthened through its alignment with the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. Commenting on the initiative, Mr Sanjib Koner, Honorary Secretary, SXCCAA, said the camp reflected the collective strength of alumni, academia, government, and healthcare institutions working together to create sustainable grassroots impact.

নিজস্ব সংবাদ: পাল সাম্রাজ্যের পতনের পর সামন্ত সেনের হাত ধরে একাদশ ও দ্বাদশ শতকে বাংলায় শুরু হয় সেন সাম্রাজ্য । গড়িয়ার বোড়াল অঞ্চলের সেন দিঘী থেকে উদ্ধার হওয়া পাল ও সেন যুগের কিছু স্থাপত্য ও ভাস্কর্য এই দাবি রাখে। বহু বছর আগে ১১১ নম্বর ওয়ার্ড অন্তর্গত গড়িয়ার বোড়াল অঞ্চলে সেন পরিবারের হাতে সেন দিঘি থেকে স্বপ্নাদেশে প্রাপ্ত মা ৺ত্রিপুর সুন্দরীর মূর্তি প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়। বলা হয় মা ৺ত্রিপুর সুন্দরী দেবী দুর্গার এক রূপ বুধের দেবী। এলাকার প্রাচীন ও পূজনীয় শ্রী শ্রী ৺ত্রিপুর সুন্দরী মন্দির দীর্ঘদিন ধরে মানুষের ভক্তি, আস্থা ও সাংস্কৃতিক ঐতিহ্যের এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রতীক হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত। এই বুধের দেবী শ্রী শ্রী ৺ত্রিপুর সুন্দরী মায়ের আরাধনাকে কেন্দ্র করে এই মন্দিরে প্রতিদিন বহু ভক্তের সমাগম ঘটে। মন্দিরটি তার শান্ত পরিবেশ ও ঐতিহ্যবাহী রীতিনীতির জন্য বিশেষভাবে পরিচিত।

একম্ ২০২৬ এক কর্মসূচির মাধ্যমে ঐতিহ্য ও আধুনিকতার সুন্দর মেলবন্ধন ঘটায়। ফাউন্ডার’স ডে-তে প্রদীপ প্রজ্জ্বলন ও উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে উৎসবের সূচনা হয়। এরপর সংগীত পরিবেশনা, নৃত্য প্রতিযোগিতা ও রিলস প্রতিযোগিতায় ফুটে ওঠে ছাত্রসমাজের সৃজনশীল স্পন্দন। পরবর্তী দিনগুলিতে নৃত্যনাট্যের মাধ্যমে গল্প বলার শক্তিশালী উপস্থাপনা এবং ফ্যাশন শো-তে মৌলিকতা, আত্মবিশ্বাস ও নতুন নকশার প্রতিভা বিশেষভাবে নজর কাড়ে। এই সব আয়োজনে আ্যডামাস বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সেই দর্শনই প্রতিফলিত হয়—শিক্ষা কেবল পাঠ্যসূচিতে সীমাবদ্ধ নয়। বছরের পর বছর ধরে একাম আ্যডামাস বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অন্যতম প্রতীক্ষিত বার্ষিক উৎসবে পরিণত হয়েছে। আগের সংস্করণগুলি ক্রীড়া ও সাংস্কৃতিক কর্মকাণ্ডকে একত্রিত করে যে ভিত্তি গড়ে তুলেছিল, একাম ২০২৬ সেই ঐতিহ্যকে আরও বিস্তৃত করেছে বৃহত্তর অংশগ্রহণ, সুদৃঢ় ছাত্রনেতৃত্ব ও উন্নত আয়োজনের মাধ্যমে। ফলে এটি শিক্ষাবর্ষের এক উল্লেখযোগ্য অধ্যায় হিসেবে নিজের স্থান পাকা করল।

এই উপলক্ষ্যে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের চ্যান্সেলর প্রফেসর শমিত রায় বলেন, “একাম আ্যডামাস বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের আত্মপরিচয়ের প্রতিফলন। এখানে শিক্ষা শুধু শ্রেণিকক্ষের মধ্যে সীমাবদ্ধ নয়; সহযোগিতা, সৃজনশীলতা ও চরিত্র গঠনের মধ্য দিয়েই তার বিকাশ ঘটে। আমাদের ছাত্রছাত্রীরা আবারও উৎকর্ষ, নেতৃত্ব ও ঐক্যের দৃষ্টান্ত স্থাপন করেছে। একম্ ২০২৬ তাদের গৌরবময় সম্ভাবনার প্রতিচ্ছবি।” একাম ২০২৬-এর পরিসমাপ্তি শুধু মঞ্চের আলো বা পদকের স্মৃতি নয়, বরং এক সম্মিলিত পরিচয়—যার ভিত্তি অগ্রগতি,গৌরব ও অংশগ্রহণে। নতুন উদ্যমে আগামী সংস্করণে আ্যডামাস বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় আবারও অনুপ্রেরিত করতে প্রস্তুত।

Kolkata, January 16, 2026. In a few days, the 49th Kolkata International Book Fair will begin. Dev Sahitya Kutir, a 166-year-old traditional publishing house of Bengal, has published 37 books on different topics. On the occasion of the centenary of Uttam Kumar, the lost days of Mor, Anjali of Birendra Krishna Bhadra, Jhuli of the new grandmother of Dipankar Biswas, Mahabharat of the children in the picture, Billy’s boot (2), and 32 other books of different flavors have been published. He was present at the book release function. Gauri Dey, Editor and Managing Director of Shuktara, Shri Rajarshi Majumdar, Editor and Director of Nabakallo, and Smt. Kolkata | January 16, 2026 VertEV, a pan-India electric mobility company specializing in electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, launched its operations in Kolkata in a strategic association with Aralias Agency LLP. The launch marked an important milestone in VertEV’s nationwide expansion and reinforced the company’s focus on delivering clean, affordable, and accessible mobility solutions across major urban centres in India. Kolkata was identified as a key market due to its dense population and rapidly growing last-mile delivery ecosystem. VertEV’s operations in Kolkata focused on electric two-wheelers and L5-category electric three-wheelers, catering to last-mile delivery partners, fleet operators, small businesses, and individual riders. The company introduced flexible rental and partner-led deployment models aimed at reducing high upfront costs and eliminating long-term financial commitments.

Under its B2C rental model, riders were offered electric two-wheelers at ₹210 per day, with a minimum seven-day rental of ₹1,470 per week. All transactions were conducted digitally through the company’s mobile application, ensuring a fully cashless process. Riders were also given the option to extend rentals using the same vehicle. Each vehicle provided a minimum range of 80 km, which could extend up to 90–95 km with efficient usage. To support uninterrupted operations, riders were able to access public charging infrastructure across Kolkata, including commercial and hospitality locations. Beyond vehicle rental, VertEV positioned its platform as an employment-generation initiative within the gig economy. Riders associated with delivery platforms such as Swiggy, Zomato, BigBasket, Blinkit, and Zepto were able to earn approximately ₹900–₹1,200 per day, without any down payment, EMI burden, or long-term liability. Riders retained the flexibility to return vehicles at any time.

VertEV provided maintenance, servicing, roadside assistance, and vehicle insurance as part of the rental framework at no additional cost. All riders were onboarded following mandatory KYC verification, including Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence, and police verification. For electric three-wheelers, the company adopted a B2B partner model, deploying vehicles with attached drivers through logistics platforms such as Porter, under structured revenue-sharing arrangements. Commenting on the launch, Ravi Shekhar, Director, VertEV, said the partnership with Aralias Agency LLP brought strong local operational expertise, enabling reliable and scalable electric mobility services in Kolkata. ICSI organizes Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme under the aegis of the Ministry of External Affairs

Kolkata, 14 January 2026: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), under Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation, is organising a two-week immersive learning programme for delegates from various countries to prepare them for an increasingly globalised world.

The residential training programme is being organised on “Corporate Governance for a Better Tomorrow: Empowering Leaders in Compliance, Risk and Sustainability” in ICSI CCGRT Kolkata from 14 to 25 January 2026. It will witness the participation of delegates from Botswana, Cote d’Ivoire, Fiji, Ghana, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Laos, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Myanmar, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Vietnam, and Zambia. As an established and well-acclaimed global governance body, the ICSI has been well-positioned to share its expertise in corporate governance, compliance, and sustainability. Through global capacity building, knowledge exchange, and dialogue, the ICSI will foster ethical, transparent, and globally aligned practices for a better tomorrow.

The programme will provide a comprehensive understanding of the evolving governance landscape and will explore the Indian legal system along with key regulators like MCA, SEBI, and RBI, while showcasing the Government of India’s flagship schemes under the Digital India Programme for providing ease of doing business. The curriculum will deep-dive into ICSI Secretarial Standards for Board and General Meetings, Ethical Stewardship, and the implementation of Indian Labour Codes, and address modern challenges through sessions on ESG Governance, Sustainability Disclosure, and Global Risk Management. Besides this, a study tour of the regulatory body in Kolkata is also planned to give participants real-world insights. A two-day cultural tour of Kolkata City is also planned during the programme to showcase the rich history and heritage of the “City of Joy”.

Kolkata, January 2026: Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar presents the second edition of Bloom & Blend, a premium Fashion & Lifestyle Exhibition at The Maple, PC Chandra Garden, Kolkata. Kolkata, 5th January 2026: The West Bengal garment industry comes alive with the 59th Garment Meet and B2B Expo, being held over three days from 5th to 7th January 2026, at Science City, Kolkata, spanning 2 lakh sqft. area. This event, organized by the West Bengal Garment Manufacturers and Dealers Association (WBGMDA), which has been a pivotal part of the industry for 61 years, is expected to create significant business prospects. More than 1,000 national and international brands will be featured at the 59th Garment Buyers & Sellers Meet & B2B Expo, showcasing a wide selection of readymade garments for kids, men, and women. The event is projected to generate commercial dealings valued at around Rs. 1,500 crore in the wholesale market. The significance of the event for the state’s economy was underlined by the presence of the State Government and leading businessmen and prominent corporate houses who attended the event, demonstrating the significance of the Association’s endeavor in boosting the State economy. Kolkata, 4th January, 2026: FTS Yuva, the youth wing of Friends of Tribals Society, organized its annual flagship event Ekal Run at Godrej Waterside, Kolkata today, wherein 5000+ participants ran for their chosen category of timed run – 21km, 10km, 5 km, and non-timed /fun run of 3km at this Marathon. People of all age groups participated in the run. The Ekal Run was inaugurated by Saina Nehwal, the First Indian Badminton Player to win an Olympic Medal, and was attended by: Shri Mukesh, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar; Rahul Dev Bose, Actor; Debadrita Basu, Actress; Payel Mukherjee, Actress; and senior members from the organization present were: Sri. Durgapur to Host Inaugural Durgapur International Marathon 2026 as Part of Grand Sports Carnival
Kolkata, 3rd January 2026: Durgapur is set to make its mark on India’s sporting calendar with the launch of the inaugural Durgapur International Marathon 2026, a marquee event under the Lalbaba Rice Durgapur Sports Carnival 2026, organised by Durgapur Club Samannay. Founded by a group of like-minded citizens, Durgapur Club Samannay is committed to the development of sports and cultural activities aimed at youth empowerment and social welfare across Durgapur and neighbouring districts.
The Durgapur International Marathon 2026—’Run for Unity’—will be held on Sunday, 25 January 2026, and is expected to attract runners from across India and overseas. The marathon will feature four race categories:
21 km (Half Marathon)
10 km
5 km
2 km (Fun Run)
With a total prize purse of 25 lakh for the 21 km and 10 km categories, the event aims to encourage competitive excellence while promoting mass participation. All registered runners will receive official T-shirts, finisher medals, and digitally timed certificates. The marathon is one of the prime highlights of the Lalbaba Rice Durgapur Sports Carnival 2026, an ambitious multi-sport festival featuring both indoor and outdoor disciplines, including badminton, basketball, kho-kho, table tennis, football, and cricket, with competitions for both men and women. In a significant boost to the initiative, the Bengal Olympic Association (BOA) has extended its support to the sports carnival, reinforcing the shared vision of nurturing grassroots talent and preparing young athletes for state, national, and international representation.

The virtual session emphasised the importance of ethics and fair dealing in building a strong brand reputation and goodwill in the market. During the lecture, Mr Chopra shared his personal experience of building the PS Group from humble beginnings as a first-generation entrepreneur. He highlighted how ethical behaviour and fair dealing with all stakeholders have been instrumental in establishing one of the most respected real estate brands globally. Mr Chopra emphasised that a strong brand enables companies to command premium prices, attract top talent, and enjoy favourable treatment from government agencies. The lecture was followed by an engaging question-and-answer session with students, who were highly appreciative of Mr Chopra’s insights and experiences. Kolkata to Host Year-End Special Edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle; Atanu Das, Deepika Kumari, Joydeep Karmakar to Headline Event at SAI

Kolkata, December 27: The City of Joy will host the 54th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle on December 28, marking the final edition of the nationwide fitness movement for the calendar year 2025. The year-end special edition will take place at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) campus in Salt Lake, bringing together athletes and fitness enthusiasts in a collective celebration of health, sport, and active living. Four-time Olympian and former World No. 1 archer, as well as Padma Shri and Arjuna Awardee Deepika Kumari, will headline the event alongside fellow Olympians and Arjuna Awardees Atanu Das, Rahul Banerjee, Bombayla Devi Laishram, and Mangal Singh Champia. Joining them will be Olympian shooter Joydeep Karmakar, Arjuna Awardee Susmita Singha Roy in athletics, and Dronacharya Awardee Dr. Kuntal Roy. Besides the cycling drive, the event will feature a vibrant mix of cycling, fitness sessions, Zumba, rope skipping, yoga, cultural performances, and public engagement activities, reflecting the inclusive spirit of the Fit India movement. Participants from across the city are expected to join the early-morning ride, reaffirming Kolkata’s growing embrace of cycling as both a fitness habit and a sustainable lifestyle choice. Apart from Kolkata, events will be held simultaneously across 10,000 locations nationwide, specifically at the Sports Authority of India and Khelo India centers. Launched in December 2024 by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Fit India Sundays on Cycle has steadily evolved into a people-driven movement, encouraging citizens to incorporate fitness into their weekly routines while promoting cleaner and greener mobility. So far, over 20 lakh people have joined in from more than 2 lakh locations. As the final edition of 2025, the Kolkata chapter stands as a symbolic full circle—uniting sporting excellence, community participation, and the message of “Fitness Ka Dose, Adha Ghanta Roz.”
