After a goalless contest for over 100 minutes, Meitei broke the deadlock deep into added time to secure three points for the hosts, who moved up to second in the table with 14 points, while Gokulam Kerala FC remained seventh with eight points. Meitei was adjudged Man of the Match. Rajasthan United head coach Vikrant Sharma made one change to his starting XI, bringing in Pranjal Bhumij in midfield. In contrast, Gokulam Kerala head coach Dimitris Dimitriou made two changes, including the return of goalkeeper Shibinraj Kunniyil. Kharagpur, 06th April 2026: The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur is proud to announce that HemoQR, a portable haemoglobin estimation kit developed by SmartQR Technologies under the mentorship of Prof. Suman Chakraborty and incubated at the ICMR-DHR Centre of Excellence and DSIR-Common Research and Technology Development Hub (CRTDH) at IIT Kharagpur, has been officially recommended by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). IIT Kharagpur to Host First Craft Toolkit Workshop ‘Srishti O Anusandhan’ in Collaboration with Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles

Kharagpur, 24 March 2026: The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, through its recently established Center of Excellence for the Unified AI-Enabled Craft Ecosystem Platform, in collaboration with the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, and Government of India, is set to organise its first Craft Toolkit Workshop titled “Srishti O Anusandhan” from 25 March to 2 April 2026 at IIT Kharagpur. The Rajendra Mishra School of Engineering Entrepreneurship will host the inaugural programme on 25 March 2026 at 10:30 AM. The workshop will bring together 15 distinguished artisans representing seven diverse craft traditions and clusters from across India, including Kallakurichi Wood Carving (GI) from Tamil Nadu, Khatamband from Jammu & Kashmir, Udayagiri Wooden Cutlery from Andhra Pradesh, cane & bamboo craft from the North Eastern Region, Saharanpur wood craft from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-based wood craft practices, and wood carving traditions from Odisha. The group includes award-winning master artisans and skilled workers, featuring both men and women, who represent a variety of traditional crafts from different regions.

This pioneering initiative aims to document craft processes systematically, tools, materials, and production methodologies while fostering meaningful engagement between artisans, faculty members, researchers, and domain experts. The workshop is part of a larger plan from the Centre of Excellence, which is backed by the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) and focuses on three main areas: small project integration and creating a portal; organising workshops, improving toolkits, and building a design database; and developing a craft repository and learning systems using AI and LLM technology. During the workshop, artisans will demonstrate their techniques, share insights into tools and materials, and engage in collaborative discussions with the IIT Kharagpur team for documentation, analysis, and potential enhancement of toolkits. We expect the outcomes of this exercise to contribute to future documentation frameworks, toolkit development, design databases, learning resources, and potential market and design linkages. Select samples and prototypes may also be retained at the Centre of Excellence for research, testing, and display.

A significant component of the programme will include expert interaction sessions scheduled on 28 and 29 March 2026, focusing on craft processes, tools, materials, challenges, and community-acceptable innovations. These deliberations aim to develop a grounded and context-sensitive approach to toolkit augmentation and innovation in traditional craft ecosystems. The workshop will also feature continuous video and photographic documentation, artisan interviews, collaborative brainstorming sessions, and opportunities for artisans to showcase and sell their creations within the IIT Kharagpur campus during the later phase of the programme. Speaking ahead of the workshop, Prof. Priyadarshi Patnaik, Principal Investigator of the project and Coordinator of the workshop, remarked, “This initiative marks an important early step towards building a long-term, research-driven and technology-enabled ecosystem for Indian handicrafts through close collaboration between artisans, academic institutions, experts, and government agencies.” We are grateful to the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Smt Amrit Raj, and her office for their support. IIT Kharagpur Organizes Awareness-Building Workshop for Rural Women under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan

Kharagpur, West Bengal: The Centre for Rural Development and Innovative Sustainable Technology (CRDIST) at IIT Kharagpur, under the aegis of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), successfully organised a comprehensive awareness-building workshop aimed at empowering rural women from the Jhargram district of West Bengal. The initiative brought together over 70 women from more than 20 villages across the Gopiballavpur-I and Nayagram blocks, marking a significant step toward fostering inclusive and sustainable rural development. The programme commenced with a vibrant cultural procession, where participants showcased their traditional heritage while marching from the IIT Kharagpur main gate to the Rural Development Centre, creating an atmosphere of community pride and engagement.

The inaugural session was chaired by Professor Suman Chakraborty, Director, IIT Kharagpur, in the presence of Professor Debdeep Mukhopadhyay, Associate Dean (R&D), and Professor Madan Kumar Jha, Head, CRDIST. In his keynote address, Professor Suman Chakraborty emphasised that the empowerment of rural women is fundamental to societal progress. He highlighted the importance of health, hygiene, and financial independence, encouraging participants to explore entrepreneurial opportunities by marketing locally produced goods. Professor Debdeep Mukhopadhyay addressed the importance of access to accurate information, noting that misinformation can reinforce societal biases. The workshop was divided into two technical sessions. The first session on rural health and hygiene featured Dr Indranath Banerjee, who spoke on birth control and family planning. The second session focused on household energy, where Professor Chirodeep Bakli and Professor Amit Ghosh guided participants on efficient energy usage, conservation practices, and sustainable living. The programme was coordinated by Professor Somnath Ghosal and concluded with an enthusiastic response from participants, who expressed a strong interest in having similar workshops conducted in their villages.
