কলকাতা, ২৪ ফেব্রুয়ারী, ২০২৫: ব্রেইলের ২০০তম বার্ষিকী উপলক্ষে গত ২২শে ফেব্রুয়ারি একটি স্মরণীয় অনুষ্ঠানে এনআইপি এনজিও – এডুকেশন এন্ড কালচারাল সেন্টার ফর ব্লাইন্ড এন্ড আদার ডিফারেন্টলি এবলড, রোটারি ক্লাব অফ ডিস্ট্রিক্ট 3291 এর সহযোগিতায়, দৃষ্টিহীন এবং প্রতিবন্ধী ব্যক্তিদের জন্য একটি ব্রেইল প্রতিযোগিতা সফলভাবে আয়োজন করেছে। লুই ব্রেইলের উত্তরাধিকার এবং বিশ্বব্যাপী দৃষ্টি প্রতিবন্ধী সম্প্রদায়ের ক্ষমতায়নের জন্য তাঁর রূপান্তরমূলক ব্যবস্থা উদযাপন হয়েছিল কলকাতায়। এই অনুষ্ঠানে অনেক বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তিত্বের উপস্থিতি ছিল। ছিলেন ডঃ কৃষ্ণেন্দু গুপ্ত, জেলা ৩২৯১ এর রোটারি ক্লাবের জেলা গভর্নর; অমর মিত্র, কল্যান সেন বরাট, সমীর আইচ, অতীন বসাক, দেবপ্রতিম দাশগুপ্ত (তাজু), শ্যাম খাপা এবং তাপসী বাওলানি।
এনআইপি- র সচিব দেবজ্যোতি রায় এই অনুষ্ঠান সম্পর্কে তাঁর উচ্ছ্বাস প্রকাশ করে বলেন, “ব্রেইল প্রতিযোগিতা অন্ধ এবং প্রতিবন্ধী ব্যক্তিদের স্থিতিস্থাপকতা এবং ক্ষমতা উদযাপনের একটি পদক্ষেপ। এটি তাঁদের আলোকিত হওয়ার সুযোগ প্রদান করে এবং সকলের জন্য সমতা, স্বাধীনতা এবং অন্তর্ভুক্তির বার্তাকে আরও জোরদার করে।” ৩২৯১ জেলার রোটারি ক্লাবের জেলা গভর্নর ডঃ কৃষ্ণেন্দু গুপ্তও সমাবেশে বক্তব্য রাখেন, দৃষ্টিহীন ব্যক্তিদের জন্য সমান সুযোগ তৈরিতে ব্রেইলের গুরুত্ব তুলে ধরেন। তিনি বলেন, “৩২৯১ জেলার রোটারি ক্লাবগুলি প্রতিবন্ধী ব্যক্তিদের ক্ষমতায়নের উদ্যোগগুলিকে সমর্থন করতে পেরে গর্বিত। ব্রেইল প্রতিযোগিতা স্বাধীনতা এবং দক্ষতা বিকাশের একটি চমৎকার উদাহরণ, আমরা এই ধরনের প্রচেষ্টার প্রতি আমাদের সমর্থন অব্যাহত রাখতে প্রতিশ্রুতিবদ্ধ।”
অনুষ্ঠানটির পাশাপাশি, এই প্রতিযোগিতা লুই ব্রেইলের উত্তরাধিকারের প্রতি আন্তরিক শ্রদ্ধাঞ্জলি ছিল, যার ব্যবস্থা দৃষ্টিহীন সম্প্রদায়কে শিক্ষা, সাহিত্য এবং সামাজিক অংশগ্রহণের সুযোগ করে দেওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করেছে। এদিন ১৮০০ সালের গোড়ার দিকে লুই ব্রেইল চার্লস বারবিয়ারের নাইট রাইটিং সিস্টেম থেকে ব্রেইলের পরিবর্তনের মাধ্যমে ব্রেইলের ইতিহাস তুলে ধরা হয়। এই বিপ্লবী কোডের অবিশ্বাস্য যাত্রার উপর আলোকপাত করা হয় এই অনুষ্ঠানে। বিশ্ব যখন ব্রেইলের ২০০তম বার্ষিকী উদযাপন করছে, তখন কলকাতার এই অনুষ্ঠানটি কেবল ব্রেইলের ঐতিহ্যকেই সম্মান করেনি বরং প্রতিবন্ধী ব্যক্তিদের জন্য অন্তর্ভুক্তি এবং সমতার প্রতি অঙ্গীকারকেও পুনর্ব্যক্ত করেছে। ব্রেইল প্রতিযোগিতাটি এমন একটি অর্জনের প্রতি উপযুক্ত শ্রদ্ধাঞ্জলি ছিল যা লক্ষ লক্ষ মানুষকে ক্ষমতায়িত করেছে এবং বিশ্বব্যাপী জীবনকে সমৃদ্ধ করে চলেছে।
এনআইপি এনজিও-এর পটভূমি: (ন্যাশনাল ইনস্টিটিউট অফ প্রফেশনালস) এনআইপি এনজিও – দৃষ্টিহীন ও অন্যান্য প্রতিবন্ধীদের জন্য একটি শিক্ষা ও সাংস্কৃতিক কেন্দ্র। এনআইপি ৩ ডিসেম্বর, ২০১২ তারিখে “রাষ্ট্রীয় পুরষ্কার” লাভ করে। এছাড়াও, এটি কলকাতার বিভিন্ন অংশ এবং পশ্চিমবঙ্গের অন্যান্য জেলায় বেশ কয়েকটি সচেতনতা শিবির আয়োজন করে আসছে। এনআইপি-এর লক্ষ্য হল দৃষ্টিহীন এবং প্রতিবন্ধীদের সম্ভাব্য সকল উপায়ে সাহায্য করা। এটি দৃষ্টিহীনদের জন্য অল বেঙ্গল দাবা প্রতিযোগিতা এবং টি-২০ ক্রিকেট টুর্নামেন্ট ইত্যাদিরও আয়োজন করে আসছে।
Kolkata, 22nd February 2025: In a momentous event commemorating the 200th anniversary of Braille, NIP – An Education & Cultural Centre for the Blind & other Differently Abled, in collaboration with Rotary Clubs of District 3291, successfully organized a Braille competition for blind and differently-abled individuals. The event was held at the Indian Museum, Kolkata, celebrating the legacy of Louis Braille and his transformative system that empowers the visually impaired community worldwide.
The event was graced by the presence of many eminent personalities, such as Dr. Krishnendu Gupta, District Governor of Rotary Clubs of District 3291; Amar Mitra, Kalyan Sen Barat, Samir Aich, Atin Basak, Debapratim Dasgupta (Taju), Sham Khapa, and Tapasi Bawlani. Debjyoti Roy, Secretary of NIP, expressed his excitement about the event, stating, “The Braille competition is a step towards celebrating the resilience and abilities of individuals who are blind and differently-abled. It allows them to shine and reinforces the message of equality, independence, and inclusion for all.”
Dr. Krishnendu Gupta, District Governor, Rotary Club of District 3291, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of Braille in creating equal opportunities for visually impaired individuals. He remarked, “The Rotary Clubs of District 3291 are proud to support initiatives that empower people with disabilities. The Braille competition is an excellent example of fostering independence and skill development, and we are committed to continuing our support for such endeavours.”
The competition, along with the event, was a heartfelt tribute to the legacy of Louis Braille, whose system has been instrumental in enabling the blind community to access education, literature, and social participation. The history of Braille, dating back to the early 1800s when it was modified by Louis Braille from Charles Barbier’s Night Writing system, was also shared during the event, shedding light on the incredible journey of this revolutionary code.
As the world celebrates the 200th anniversary of Braille, the event in Kolkata not only honoured Braille’s legacy but also reaffirmed the commitment to inclusivity and equality for persons with disabilities. The Braille competition was a fitting tribute to an achievement that has empowered millions and continues to enrich lives globally.
Background of NIP NGO: (National Institute of Professionals) NIP NGO – An Education & Cultural Centre for the Blind & other Differently Abled. NIP was awarded the “STATE AWARD” on December 3, 2012. Besides, it has been organizing many awareness camps in different parts of Kolkata and other districts of West Bengal. NIP aims towards helping the blind and differently abled in every possible way. It has also been organizing the All Bengal Chess Competition and T-20 Cricket Tournament for the blinds, etc.
