The Industry Conclave on “Roadmap of Skilling Towards Viksit Bharat”, organised by the Water Management and Plumbing Skill Council (WMPSC) in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Eastern Region, was held at the Biswa Bangla Exhibition Centre, New Town, Kolkata, on the sidelines of CII Realty East & Build Expo 2026, where Shri Jagannath Chattopadhyay, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Departments of Higher Education and Technical Education, Training and Skill Development, Government of West Bengal, addressed the gathering. During his address, Shri Chattopadhyay said, “The initiative and the expo hold immense value for the economy and business. Apart from education, I also hold the responsibility for skill development and training, and the involvement of skilled workers is essential to make such initiatives truly meaningful. We do not want to miss the opportunity to contribute to the holistic development of the state. We must focus on upskilling our youth through training aligned with the NSDC framework, and I urge people to take proactive steps towards skill development.
He further noted, “The government has ensured that even households in the most remote areas have access to a piped water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Similarly, I urge people to engage with us and make use of the facilities available for training and skill development. Industry must come forward in this endeavour, as strong industry linkages are critical. Unemployment is often discussed, but addressing the skill gap is equally important. We need to create a larger pool of skilled workers and more opportunities within the state. We do not want West Bengal to be known for its migrant workforce; we want to create opportunities here for our youth.” Mr Vinay Gupta, Advisory Board Chairman, WMPSC, opined, “We are providing skill training to plumbers, including training on the use of AI to enhance their capabilities and skills. The government is actively focusing on infrastructure development, but this requires a skilled workforce. We are doing our part to support this effort by strengthening the skills of workers.”
Dr Sudipta Narayan Roy, Chairman, CII Eastern Region AYUSH Subcommittee & Managing Director, Powell Group, said, “India’s skill development reports indicate that employability has risen from 46% in 2020 to 56.4% today. India has a demographic dividend that very few nations possess, and the various central government schemes and initiatives are providing strong support to skill development.” “The announcement of three new All India Institutes of Ayurveda in this year’s budget is a significant step, while the inclusion of AYUSH in mainstream skill development can further strengthen the sector. India aims to have 45 million skilled professionals by 2030, and construction is the second-largest employment-generating sector. This highlights the need to build a strong and future-ready skilled workforce to support India’s growth,” added Dr Roy.
The three-day CII Realty East & Build Expo 2026 concluded on a grand note, witnessing 3,500+ visitors, 100+ stalls and over 50,000 unique products on display. The expo emerged as one of Eastern India’s biggest initiatives for the real estate, construction and built environment sector, providing a major platform for showcasing products, innovations and solutions while fostering industry collaboration.
