Tamluk/Kolkata, September 15, 2026: Team BK2 FC emerged as the winners of the boys’ final in Tamluk in the CIL Cup, defeating Monjhupra Boys 2-0 to secure their place in the zonal stage. Samir Hansda was named the Player of the Match. A total of 16 teams competed in the boys’ category at the Tamluk location. The result saw Team BK2 FC finish the local competition on top, with their two-goal victory over Monjhupra Boys earning them progression to the next stage. Monjhupra Boys finished as runners-up after the final. The Tamluk competition formed part of the wider CIL Cup league phase being played across West Bengal, giving grassroots footballers the opportunity to compete in organized matches and gain valuable competitive experience. The tournament is also creating avenues for promising players to be identified through sustained competition.
The zonal stage will further narrow the field, with four teams from the men’s category and four from the women’s category advancing to the semi-finals. The semi-finals and final will be held in Purulia as the competition moves towards its concluding stages. The tournament also offers a potential pathway beyond the competition itself, with 50–100 players set to be recommended to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for scholarships at the conclusion of the CIL Cup. This could provide promising performers with an opportunity to pursue further sporting development. With teams progressing from the league phase towards the zonal stage, the CIL Cup is bringing together players from different parts of West Bengal while giving Coal India’s grassroots football initiative a broad competitive footprint.
