সাধারণ মানুষের স্বার্থে রাজ্যের মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের নির্দেশে আজ শুক্রবার বেলা সাড়ে এগারোটা নাগাদ নবদ্বীপের উত্তরাঞ্চল প্রাচীন মায়াপুর ইদ্রাকপুরের ও শচীমাতা বাঁধ পরিদর্শনে এলেন রাজ্যের সেচমন্ত্রী পার্থ ভৌমিক। সঙ্গে ছিলেন নবদ্বীপের বিধায়ক তথা রাজ্যের প্রাক্তন মন্ত্রী পুন্ডরীকাক্ষ সাহা। এছাড়াও ছিলেন নবদ্বীপ পঞ্চায়েত সমিতির সভাপতি তাপস ঘোষ, ছিলেন জেলা পরিষদের কর্মাধ্যক্ষা তারান্নুম সুলতানা এছাড়াও ছিলেন এক্সিকিউটিভ ইঞ্জিনিয়ার সহ জেলার অন্যান্য আধিকারিকরা।
সেচমন্ত্রী পার্থ ভৌমিক বলেন, মমতা ব্যানার্জি চান সমস্ত নদী ভাঙ্গন রোধ করে দিতে কিন্তু তাতে কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের সহযোগিতার প্রয়োজন, কিন্তু সেটা কেন্দ্রীয় সরকার করছে না। এখানে অনেক বিজেপি বিধায়ক আছেন তাঁরা নিজেদের এলাকার মানুষের কে রক্ষা করার জন্য নদী ভাঙ্গন রোধ করার জন্য তাঁদেরও যে কেন্দ্র সরকারের কাছে চিঠি দেওয়ার প্রয়োজন সেই কাজটা তাঁরা করছেন না। তাঁরা মানুষের ভোট নিচ্ছেন আর বিজেপির বিধায়কের মাইনা। কিন্তু তাঁরা যে ব্যক্তিগতভাবে কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের কাছে চিঠি করবেন তাঁরা সেটা করছেন না। তবে এই বাঁধ মেরামতের কাজ হবে এটুকু তিনি বলে গেলেন।
মন্ত্রীর এদিনের সফর প্রসঙ্গে নবদ্বীপ পঞ্চায়েত সমিতির সভাপতি তাপস ঘোষ বলেন শহর ও গামকে একসাথে সংযোগ স্থাপন করে সামগ্রিক ভাবে এলাকার মানুষের চলাচল, মৎস জীবিদের জীবিকা সহ এলাককে কিভাবে পর্যটন কেন্দ্র করে গড়ে তোলা যায় তা নিয়ে আলোচনা হয়, মন্ত্রী আশ্বাস দিয়েছেন, এবং মন্ত্রী পার্থ ভৌমিকের ভুয়সী প্রশংসাও করেন তিনি।

Commenting on the minister’s visit, Nabadwip Panchayat Samiti president Tapas Ghosh said that discussions were held on connecting the city and the gam together and the movement of the people of the area as a whole, the livelihood of the fishermen and how to make Elak a tourist hub.
