MI News Service, Kolkata: A team from Recods Mechanised Infantry Regiment recently conducted an outreach programme for resolving the grievances of veterans and their dependents. Ex-servicemen, Veer Naris and their dependents residing in Kolkata, Hooghly, Howrah, South 24 Parganas and other adjoining districts participated in large numbers to get on-the-spot resolutions of their grievances or queries. The programme was conducted successfully with the administrative support of the Zila Sainik Welfare Office, Kolkata, and the Rajya Sainik Board, West Bengal. During the programme, the team provided on-the-spot assistance and resolved issues relating to pension, documentation, service records, ECHS, SPARSH, welfare benefits and other grievances concerning veterans and their families.
VBU hosts Womenâs Swimming Championship
MI News Service, Santiniketan (WB): The First State-Level Womenâs Para Swimming Championship 2026 was successfully held at Vinaya Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, marking a historic milestone for para-sports in Eastern India. Jointly organised by the Civilian Welfare Foundation (CWF) and the Community Catalyst Foundation (CCF), the championship created a dedicated, dignified platform for women para-athletes across West Bengal.
Over 50 women para-athletes from more than 10 districts, including North 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Purba Bardhaman, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, Purulia, and Cooch Behar, competed across events grouped into six categories. Athlete classification followed international standards to ensure transparency, fairness, and competitive integrity. A significant feature of the championship was the inclusion of the S14 category, reserved exclusively for women athletes with intellectual disabilities, reflecting the organisersâ commitment to equitable participation for diverse impairment types.
The championship also featured participation from noted national-level para-swimmers Shahida Khatun, Dipanwita Majumdar, and Anamika Garai, whose presence elevated the event and inspired emerging athletes. The event was graced by the principal of Vinaya Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, faculty members from multiple university departments, and officials from the district sports administration.
ECL signs MoU with WBFDCL
MI News Service, Sanctoria: Reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and ecological restoration, Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the West Bengal Forest Development Corporation Limited (WBFDCL) to undertake large-scale plantation and afforestation activities in the Paschim Bardhaman district of the state.
Reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and ecological restoration, Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, on Tuesday entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the West Bengal Forest Development Corporation Limited (WBFDCL) to undertake large-scale plantation and afforestation activities across Paschim Bardhaman district. The MoU was exchanged during the inauguration of âAranya Saptaha 2026â at Salt Lake in Kolkata.
On behalf of ECL, the MoU was exchanged by Satish Jha, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, with Harish, IFS, Chief Executive Officer, Green Projects Wing, WBFDCL, during the event, which was attended by Suvendu Adhikari, Chief Minister of West Bengal, and several senior dignitaries, including the Minister-in-Charge, Forest Department; Minister-in-Charge, Health Department; Minister of State, Forest Department; Chief Secretary, Government of West Bengal; Additional Chief Secretary, Forest Department; and the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force (PCCF & HoFF).
