ইন্দ্রজিৎ আইচ : বাংলার রঙ্গ মঞ্চের ১৫০ বছরের ইতিহাসে – ইতিহাস আশ্রিত নাটকের সংখ্যা কম নয়, বহু ঘটনা, চরিত্র- আমাদের সামনে জীবন্ত হয়ে উঠেছে, এই সব নাটকের মাধ্যমে- চন্দননগর যুগের যাত্রী র প্রযোজনা- হিকি সাহেবের গেজেট সর্বঅর্থে এক নতুন পথের দিশা আমাদের দেখিয়েছে। ভারত বর্ষের সংবাদ পত্র প্রকাশের জনক জেমস অগাস্টস হিকি এই কোলকাতা শহরে প্রথম প্রকাশ করেন তার পত্রিকা দ্যা বেঙ্গল গেজেট ১৭৮০ সালের ২৯ জানুয়ারী। এটি আধুনিক ভারতের ইতিহাসে একটি মাইল । হিকি মাত্র তিন বছর এই পত্রিকা প্রকাশ করতে পারেন, কারন ওয়ারেন হেস্টিংসের নেতৃত্বে রাষ্ট্র শক্তির ভয়ঙ্কর নিপীড়নে বেঙ্গল গেজেট পত্রিকা প্রকাশ বন্ধ হয়ে যায় ১৭৮৩ সালের ২৩ মার্চ। কি কারণে তখনকার ঔপনিবেশিক প্রশাসন – হিকি র এই সংবাদ পত্রের কন্ঠ রোধ করলেন, কারন একটাই এই নির্ভিক সাংবাদিক হিকি তার কাগজে ওয়ারেন হেস্টিংসের দুর্নীতির কথা, সৈরাচারী প্রশাসন এর তুলে ধরেন । একটি সংবাদ পত্রের প্রকাশ সেই সময় যে অভিঘাত সৃষ্টি করে ছিল তার বস্তু নিষ্ট প্রতিবেদন তুলে ধরেছে যুগের যাত্রীর প্রযোজনা- হিকি সাহেবের গেজেট । এক ঘণ্টার পরিসরে রুদ্ধশ্বাস গতিতে এগিয়ে গেছে এই নাটক চরম পরিনতির দিকে- কেবল অভিনয় ও সংলাপ কে আশ্রয় করে । অভিনয়ে প্রথমেই বলতেহয় হিকি চরিত্রে পরিচালক রামকৃষ্ণ মণ্ডল এর কথা ,এক কথায় অনবদ্য, তার সাথে তাল মিলিয়ে অভিনয় করেছে ওয়ারেন হেস্টিংসের চরিত্রে সুমিত সাহা- জোনাথন – বিশ্বজিৎ দাস, আইরে কুট – আনুপম ভট্টাচার্য, পিটার রিড- কৌশিক দত্ত, এলিজা ইম্পে- সুজিত গুপ্ত। নাটকে আলো ও সংগীতের প্রয়োগ যথাযথ । পরিশেষে এটা বলতেই হবে বিষয়বস্তু নির্বাচনে ও নাটক রচনার ক্ষেত্রে নাট্যকার শংকর বসু ঠাকুর নতুন চিন্তা ভাবনা ভাবনার রসদ জুগিয়েছেন। সম্প্রতি কলকাতার শিশির মঞ্চে পশ্চিমবঙ্গ নাট্য একাডেমী, তথ্য ও সংস্কৃতি বিভাগ এর সহযোগিতায় চন্দননগর যুগের যাত্রীর পরিবেশনায় এই নাটকটি মঞ্চস্থ হলো।
Indrajit Aich: In the 150-year history of Bengal’s Rang Manch – the number of historical dramas is not less, many events, and characters – have come alive in front of us, through all these dramas – the production of Jatri of the Chandannagar era – Hickey Sahib’s Gazette has shown us a new direction in every sense. James Augustus Hickey, the father of India’s newspaper publishing, first published his newspaper The Bengal Gazette on January 29, 1780, in the city of Kolkata. It is a milestone in the history of modern India. Hickey was able to publish this newspaper for only three years, because the Bengal Gazette ceased publication on 23 March 1783 due to the terrible repression of the state power led by Warren Hastings. Why did the then colonial administration stop the voice of Hickey’s newspaper, because this fearless journalist Hickey highlighted the corruption of Warren Hastings in his paper, the dictatorial administration. The publication of a newspaper has given an objective report of the shock that was created at the time, produced by the traveler of the era – Mr. Hickey’s Gazette. In the space of an hour, the drama moves at a breathless pace toward extremes – sheltering only acting and dialogue. The first thing to say about the performance is the director Ramakrishna Mandal’s role as Hickey, in one word impeccable, Sumit Saha – Jonathan – Biswajit Das, Ire Koot – Anupam Bhattacharya, Peter Reed – Kaushik Dutta, Eliza Impe – Sujit Gupta acted in harmony with him. The use of light and music in the play is appropriate. Finally, it must be said that the dramatist Shankar Bose Tagore has provided the logistics of new thinking in the selection of the subject matter and the composition of the play. Recently, this play was staged at Shishir Manch in Kolkata with the collaboration of West Bengal Natya Academy, Department of Information and Culture with the performance of Yatri of the Chandannagar era.
