When it’s health, it’s Woodlands!!The most happening sporting competition in India, the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, entrusted Woodlands with taking care of the medical needs of the players, officials and spectators for the cricket World Cup 2023 matches held at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Having served Kolkata for over seven decades, Woodlands Hospital served as the official medical service provider for all five matches at the historic Eden, deputing sixty personnel per match, including six doctors, female and make nurses, technicians and coordinators. The hospital was responsible for taking care of the cuts and bruises, dehydration and headaches not only during the matches but also during the practice sessions of all the teams. Players like Glenn Maxwell of Australia, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammed Wasim and Haris Rauf of Pakistan and Ryan Klien of Netherlands also visited Woodlands for consultations and investigations.
During the World Cup matches at Eden Gardens, including the semi-final, Woodlands teams manned and managed a players’ medical room, two mini hospitals and seven first aid kiosks around the stadium apart from deputing a team inside the field of play. In each of the matches, close to 300 spectators were attended to by the medical team, a few of them with serious complications, including a young woman who was hit above the right eye by Shreyas Iyer big hit during practice before the India-South Africa group stage game. To address exigencies, six ambulances had been stationed from two hours before the matches.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has lauded “the efforts of entire team of Woodlands for Medical Support” during the matches and even wanted the medical co-ordinator for the Kolkata matches Dr Saptarshi Basu, who is also the medical superintendent of Woodlands Hospital, to share pictures of the arrangements in the medical rooms at Edens to share with other venues as the template that should be followed.
“Woodlands is proud to have provided medical care for a premier event like the cricket World Cup. It calls for clinical expertise as well as managerial skills to deliver medical care smoothly in a tournament with so many star players and with thousands of spectators coming in for every match. We were the official health care partners for IPL 2023 and the Pink Ball Test before that and would continue to serve in big ticket sporting events going forward,” said Dr Rupali Basu, Managing Director & CEO, Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital Ltd.
